Sounds like we are in the exact same boat Mack. Execpt for us, this year never really started. If I can manage to get 13 more hours in the next two days this will be the 3rd week this YEAR I have gotten atleast 40 hours in a week. I've been looking for another job for a while, but with no luck. Either they are over an hour away from my house or they only pay like 10-12 an hour, or both. And the job market is so flooded with drivers right now it seems like you are trying to beat out 70-80 drivers for one opening.

Talked to the boss yesterday to see how things were looking, and he kinda make it sound like things might pick up, but I could tell he is just to keep from losing all his employees, I think. Then today i found out from the foreman that after friday of this week there is absolutely nothing lined up. So needless to say my eyes are wide open looking for another job.

I am definately not scared of hard work, but those jobs sound like they are for a much younger person than myself. Especially the WAWA job, there is one of those on like every corner in Philly area and Jersey. Drive 2 blocks, carry a ton of stuff into the store. Drive 2 more blocks, carry another ton of stuff into the store.

I always wondered how Sysco was to drive for. Do they have dedicated routes?
And therein lies the rub! True truck drivers don't "DO" lumper work! Local "wusses" are only glorified lumpers and dockworkers! As has been posited, a friggin MONKEY could drive a few miles between stops, and back a trailer CLOSE to the back door!

Yeah, you make good money for BEING a lumper, I've seen 'em charge $160 for 3 hours work!

But, "I" don't have to PAY it.... Or DO it! Cuz.... I'm a truck DRIVER... not an UNLOADER!

Some of you guys can "be what you want to be!" I'll just be a DRIVER, thank you!

$20 bucks an hour for a 14 hour day, just isn't enough to make me work my AZZ off

Thanks for the input i will think of something and keep you all up to date.

When i talk to my boss 2marrow i just hope he tells me we got a couple big jobs coming up and i dont have to go any where. Cuz next month will be my 1 year with him. So i get a week vac.

This is one of the exact reasons alot of us have stated for not doing local work, its either not close by or we cant afford to do dock work for 30 hours a week but all that does is get us called dumb Coolie supporters. Ridiculous you would even post this.

Hmm..... Did I put enough smilies in my last post? Just checkin'! Everyone knows I'm not a contentious poster, right? Just having a friendly little debate!

[Fact is, I checked on a job yesterday that requires delivery to grocery stores. Driver has to use an electronic power jack to pull a few pallets off at each stop. No "breakdown" or nothing..... just yank 'em off and leave 'em there! Pay 38% of the load, which is 10% more than another company offers for S.E. regional "no touch." Whaddaya think? STILL get to drive some decent miles in a 5 or 6 state area, and only have to back in and yank a few pallets off.]

I thought I read somewhere on here where 28-38 % of the load was not bad for a company driver. Am I right?

Not to attempt to speak for site admin, but "cool*e" is a racial slur, not that dissimilar to other off-color, racial words used to describe people of a different race, color, or creed.

From dictionary.com:

coolie: noun
(ethnic slur) an offensive name for an unskilled Asian laborer
