I thought the rule was a hard sole shoe. But, I don't think anybody would ever make a big deal out of it.

If the company follows OSHA guidelines, which many do, it requires a shoe or boot with a a full sole and heel! The heel thing comes from the fact that we climb in and out of our trucks, onto the cat-walk at times, in and out of vans/reefers or flatbeds!

It varies so much from one outfit to another, it is impossible to make a blanket statement. I had a safety officer one time tell me to wear whatever I felt most comfortable and safe wearing. Again, way wide range of interpretation there!

You know, I never got athletes foot in my life until I took a shower at one of the company terminals (Swift). Took me a damn month to get rid of it. Actually never got anything from the TA/Pilot/Loves/Petro

Never had any issues at the big truck stops either! But then again, I would usually spray the floors down before taking my shoes off, and use the extra little paper mats!

I would think if they get past my load, permits, log book, inspection all the way down to my footwear they are picky.

My previous reference had nothing really to do with DOT! Have heard, and seen documentation, were workmans comp refused to pay a claim, relating to a fall, because 1) the driver admitted to wearing non-conforming footwear, according to company policy and 2) there were photo's showing him wearing the improper footwear, while he was knocked out!

Oh well!

I wear flip flops all summer and have had DOT inspections conducted while wearing them. I wondered if they'd comment but never did. Sometimes I hvae bare feet too, cover the pedals with socks to stay clean. We don't get much summer and damnit I want to enjoy it!
I do carry boots for if I need them.
