This is one of the reasons why we are required to use Air Locks on our parking brakes, hardened steel padlocks on our doors, and 5th Wheel locks on our trailers (all locks having curved keyholes that require a special style key to open to prevent lock bumping). While they don't stop a thief who wants your load, they do slow that thief down to the point where they may look for an easier target. Somehow, I doubt this Prime driver had any of these inexpensive tools at his disposal, and he likely had his truck running for his dog. Might as well just hand the keys over to the thief.

 

I just dont believe in coincidence when where millions of dollars are invovled. The article said the cab was broken into. Why break into a cab at a crowded truck stop with a barking pit bull inside? Why not take a different truck. They knew, just a question of how they knew.

I've heard drivers broadcasting their load information over the CB. I hauled HARLEY DAVIDSONS out to CA from PA. Never said a word on the way out and didn't have a bit of trouble. Then, on the way back, my wife was telling some guy about out out-bound load, and we got the trailer broken into with a load of used pallets. If you say anything about what you're hauling over the radio, and it's worth something to anyone, you can expect to be relieved of it.

My wife had to go into the scale (port of entry) house going into AZ, and told the officer that we had a load of HOGS. The officer asked for the vaccinations, and she told him there were made of steel and had rubber tires. He took that as a joke and let her go. She was telling another driver about that on the way back from CA, and the next time we stopped to eat, we got out to the trailer, the doors were wide open. No one wanted the used pallets. We closed the doors and left. But, after that, we've never said one word about what we have been carrying, and never again had the doors opened.

 

Whenever we haul what is deemed a high dollar or sensitive load we are not even allowed to stop for a restroom break without calling into dispatch to let them know the location we are stopped at and we are supposed to call again when we leave. They make us call in before loading these things as well to go over a security checklist. Some companies keep a pretty tight ship on these kind of loads and dont just toss them to just any of their drivers.

 

i dont know all the details of this but i do know as a lease operator for prime someone didnt follow the rules .i can say prime does require you to have and use air cuffs on truck and a large and small lock set with the curved key this is not an option with them you must show them you have them upon getting your truck on company or lease side however the locks mean nothing when they take the trailer. also he does have a certain protocal he was to follow for high value loads and imho he did not .the biggest thing is why stop to do laundry with high value load i would say alot of this goes derectly as all of yous are saying dont say whats on board and pay attetiion to whats going on around you. inside job probly but who knows seems like someone had to be pretty brave to jump up in a truck with a pit bull . ops: ops:

 

I'm curious as to if this driver still has his job or not? I'm gonna say no but I could be wrong, I have been before!
