Default Dangerous Roads

I've heard about the Donner pass, what other areas are potentially dangerous and why?

I was just on I 80 heading east and nearly got into a collision at the Bartonsville exit. The entrance and exit ramps are way too close to each other. Drivers are trying to merge into traffic from the same 150 yard or so sliver of road that people are trying to exit.

I'm not familiar with the exit you are talking about, but in my opinion all roads in California are dangerous...4 wheelers drive like idoits

But then again, its pretty bad everywhere.

Actually, this being the 21st century I can show you what I mean:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=4...07145&t=h&z=18

It is a standard "half cloverleaf", but somehow it feels more dangerous. You can't really see if someone is trying to merge in until you are on top of them.

Donner's Pass isn't a hard pass. Quite easy in my opinion. Lizard Head Pass and Red Mountain in Colorado now.....those are a couple wicked passes.

I think Donner Pass gets its rep more for it's hazardous winter conditions than merely for steepness of grade.

Donner gets its bad rap because of a little party back in the 1800s....finger lickin' good.

Actually I think one of the worse passes I had to run was up on the A2 in Alaska, in between Salch and Delta Junction. When heading south its 5 miles straight up, once you top the hill its about 1/2 a mile down into a 90 degree left, 4.5 miles straight down into a 90 degree to the right. On the right, as you turn into the left, there is a HUGE pullout....thank god, because alot of the time your trailer is trying to pass you on the right.

How many lugs is on a trailer rim? count as you drive

Any road can be a dangerous road, all depends on what is happening that moment. Take I10 between Las Cruces and Lordstown, and again between Phoenix and the California line. Longest straightest road you'd ever want to see. But when the wind comes up and the dust starts flying it's absolute hell and has claimed more than a few lives.

By sheer reputation, the passes out West get all the hype. Cabbage, Vail, Donner... Truth is, under good weather most of them are cake. During the iwnter, they can be hairy. Honestly, you don't get into the real eye openers until you get on the two lane roads. And that goes for the East as well as the West. Get off the beaten path in PA or WV and you'll see what I mean.

Just about every road in West Virginia that isn't a 4-lane. Even a couple of the 4-lanes can be fun.
