Depending on what division you work in, yes, home every weekend. If you are on Line Haul or a Dedicated Account you should be home every weekend. There are occaisional exceptions. Freight is slow right now. A realistic expectation of pay is $45K to $60K, towards the low end while freight remains slow and towards the high end when it picks up again. Most drivers will make about $50K to $55K.

Texas is a pretty big place, what part? I work for Westar Transportation out of Wichita Falls, Tx, have worked there 14 months and been out of town only 4 weekends during that time. Starting pay .35 cents a mile, I average 2800 a week. If you live on the I-35 or I-45 corridor you can realistically expect to be home most every weekend and spend at least 1 of 2 nights a week at home. We have a yard in Lone Star Texas also, those boys are home most weekends also.
If interested, PM me for further info.

Depends where in Texas. If you live neaf Dallas/Fort Worth, there are numerous private fleet companies that will get you home during the week and every weekend. Those usually require a year though. For someone new, TMC and Maverick will both get you home weekly. Central Regrigerated has a lot of dedicated Texas/OK/LA regionals that a new driver can get.

Well, I drive for SYSCO. Actually, it's Watson/SYSCO Food Services, out of Lubbock. You are probably looking for something that will be on the road, right? That sounds like fun, but I know my wife wouldnt want to be gone all the time.

It's not OTR exciting, but if you want home time and driving time it's a good job.You may make more money starting out also.
