Default Always being late or running out of time

my dad was around ft. smith arkansas one night and the dispatcher gave him a load for mcdonough ga. it had to be there the next day around noon. he said it would be impossible for him to make it. he finally got there but the dispatcher had to reschedule it because he wasn't going to make it in time.

my dad hates being late says theres nothing he can do about it. my question is WHY SHOULD HE TAKE THE BLAME FOR BEING LATE WHEN THE DISPATCHER IS GIVING HIM LOADS THAT ARE ALMOST PAST DEADLINE AND HE IS A GOOD 600 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE?

If he accepted the load, then it is his own fault. He could have said no - even if there would have been consequenses for saying no.

As long as your Dad is running legal, hes doin OK. Is the truck he drives equipt with Qualcom or the like. If so make sure these impossible loads are well document on the Qualcom. If truck doesnt have it, dad should have some sort of recording device to record his and dispatches conversations when talking on the phone, about these kind of issues.

Then his load information undoubtedly comes down on his qualcom with pickup and delivery appt times, as long as his dispatch is aware of his current stats pertaining to HOS, there should be no issue whether or not he can make an appt. If there are any issues they should be addressed on the qualcom so its documented. Any telephone conversations should be backup on the qualcom for documentation.
I run a qualcom equipt truck, some loads do push the evelope sometime whether its close to the HOS limitations or the appt times are so tight there is not "fluff time"(term I use with my dispatch) built into the load. Fluff time=restrooms, showers, fueling, eating, etc, basically driver or truck needs while enroute.
