For various reasons, I didn't do it last month when I got my cdl. I started this month. So I get to pay an extra $100 "stupid and lazy tax" to get a new cdl when the background check is done to add hazmat to a 3 week old license.

I got mine renewed here in Texas awhile back.
If you have hazmat on you DL now you will get a temp permit to be able to pull hazmat. If you do not currently have it you will have to wait to get your license mailed to you. It took about 2-3 weeks for mine to arrive in the mail at the house.

Only need to do the background and fingerprints on the initial HAZMAT endorsment. (this is in Pennsylvania, but I assume it is the same all over the US)
