Hub miles are actual miles driven (odometer start to finish) Don't expect to see those with any medium to large OTR carrier.

HHG ( house hold movers guid) this is based on the shortest rout possible an Zip code to zip code. Most common among large OTR carriers

With this system if you drive 1200 miles you probably will only see 1100. Plus if you beliver ,and they dead head you 30 miles and it still in the same zipe code you don't get paid those 30 miles .

Practical miles ...these are supposed to be closer to asctual miles , But it really depends on the routing the company has you take , So it may not really be much better than HHG .

Home time for most large OTR companies is accrued 1 day for every seven out some it's 1 day every 6 out , and most companies have miimum time out of 14-17 days before you are allowed home time .

Taking the truck home is usually allowed at most big carriers ,However they prefer you leave the truck at the terminal if possible ...If the company allows you to take the equipment home they don't charge for fuel ...Some companies like you to take an empty with you ,which can be hard fitting truck/trailer .

How much do you make per hour as a O.T.R driver ?

From home back to home, you spend "x" amount of hr's , away, and how much money do you get paid....

Of all hour's worked, how much do you get paid per hour ?

HHG (household goods): The shortest route post office to post office. The shortest route may not be truck permitted. Generally 10-20% shorter than practical or hub miles.

Practical miles: Generally the shortest truck route between post offices or address to address depending on the exact method the company uses to compute the mileage. Usually within 5% of actual mileage.

Sometimes companies will use most practical routing on this which mean they pay the miles that is the best combination of fastest and truck shortest routing. Other companies that pay practical miles use strictly truck shortest.

Well if you count all 168 hours of the week spent living on the road ...And grossed 1000.00 your hourly rate without factoring in over time would only break down to about $5.90 HR...But if you work for a company that pays like Werner ,and only get .26 CPM and only get 2200 miles a week then you're only grossin $572.00 for the week and averaging $3.40 hr ...I guess if you break OTR down into an hourly wage you can see the job doesn't pay much infact it appears to pay less than MINUMUM wage ...

1 Mile = 1760-yards, 5280-feet, 63,360-inches.

Of course if you drive for Swift you may want to measure your speed in light years:

186,000 miles/second * 60 seconds/minute * 60 minutes/hour * 24 hours/day * 365 days/year = 5,865,696,000,000 miles/year

Now, Convert Light Year Miles to HHG miles:

93,461 = 5,865,696,000,000 * 1.5933488540831301178922330785639e-8

Swift Pay for the year:

$24,299.86 = 93,461 * .26(1)

(1) All dispatches will be at the 300-mile pay band to prevent drivers from over-reaching their income potential.

Hope this helps!
