Default Holiday Traffic

Damn,

L.A. traffic is pretty bad all the time but last night was the worst i've ever seen. I was working out of Longbeach and Orange last night and took forever to get anywhere, one load was 38 miles and took 1.75 hours, another was 22 miles and took 1.25 hours and this was at midnight!!!

Does OTR traffic change significantly with season changes??

Peace Out 8) 8)

Well, it's usually only around the major cities. Once you get out on the highway, it's pretty much just sit back-relax.

That's the only downfall of OTR driving-is the big city driving. Lukily, the open road isnt as bad as L.A., Dallas, or Chicago, etc.

My usual ride to and from work, halfway between Richmond and DC is 35 minutes in the morning to an hour, hour and a half in the afternoons in 21 miles. We aren't even a major city, we are an hour from both Richmond and DC. Like that everyday, holidays, add another 20-30 minutes for the afternoon ride home.

There is nothing quite like coming around the DC beltway and heading West on I-66 in rush hour traffic.

My wife drives 66 West from Dulles, takes her an hour to get home with no traffic in 60 miles, with traffic tack on another hour minimum. What is bad is coming off the DC Beltway after sitting there for over an hour onto 95 South at the "Mixing Bowl" and having to sit in traffic for another 60-70 miles on Friday's. In those 60 miles, you might average 2-4 mph. Come a holiday weekend, the traffic can last all the way down to Richmond before it breaks open.

Bad congestion can be seasonal. I remember when I was doing European work I was loading in Lapland one year around December 24th. Think it was about 11 at night and there were frigging thousands of little green guys in open top sports cars with wee trailers behind them full of packages. They were all cussing and swearing and blasting horns at each other and it looked like a fight might break out. Luckily this fat ol guy in a red and white suit with like fetishy kind o boots on came along and all the little green guys took directions from him and transhipped all their little loads onto this frigging humongous 800,000 tonne sled he was pulling and the jam gradually frittered away. This must have been about midnight by then

Default I dont do rush hour

I will not drive through rush hour traffic. When rush hour hits, I find a mall or something to park in and take a nap. I have found that the time you lose by sitting there can be recaptured very quickly by sitting out rush hour. What ever you do, never come into barstow CA and run into LA on Sunday night when everybody comes back from Vegas!! From the I40/I15 junction, it will take you hours to go anywhere!
