8) notice nothing said about reefer units? maybe us reefer drivers ought to find a spot near the capital and park while reefer is running. maybe i will run a flex hose from reefer to sleeper

my compnay won't let us idle, But they provided all the company trucks with tripacs so we can be comfortable while resting. They did the math for us, with 400 trucks idleing 8hrs a day average 300 days per year the cost of fuel and maintenance and wear and tear on the engine minus all that cost, but adding the cost of fuel and maintainence for the tripac the total cost of savings in a 4 year time frame was almost 14 million dollars. thats why we don't idle. The initial cost of the tripacs where alot at $8,000 a pop, but that will be covered in no time at all.

In the last few lines it mentions HOS...In a few trucks I've driven in the past, heat and A/C would be considered "intermitent equipment".
The way I saw it, the poster was just highlighting the HOS compliance at truck/rest stops. Meaning you could idle in that situation.

What Im confused about is in that same list California as a whole mentions nothing about HOS compliance, but Sacramento and Placer County does mention it.
Does the City and/or County Law overrule the State law?

They made their drivers sign a contract saying that if they didn't cut it down within a week they were fired.
What would Swift do if the driver did not sign the contract??

Just FYI, Werner doesnt bother us much about Idling. You may not beable to achieve the monthly fuel bonus, but sometimes its worth it to lose the bonus and stay comfortable. (The bonuses are pretty tough to meet anyway)

I've only worked for one company that had a fuel bonus. To get the bonus, we had to get 6.75mpg. The kicker was that we were pulling beer from NC to PA, then haul scrap metal back. Hmm - kinda hard to get ANY kind of mileage crossing the mountains with 45k constantly on your back. I think my best mileage in 6 months was about 5.5.

Although they're not able to provide AC, espars are certified by the CARB.

Thanks Colin for your response. It was much appreciated! I guess I shouldn't care anyway. I think Asthma will be enough to be able to idle. I've only heard of a few people getting harassed at the 49er in Sacramento.

I haven't heard of anyone else getting harassed for idling yet in L.A. I go to L.A. all the time and they never hassle you at the TA's. I guess they have more "fish to fry" by attempting [not real hard] to catch all those darn Lot Lizzards. I think there's more of them at the TA West sometimes than there are Drivers. 8)
