idling question

You all realize that there is an exemption in California to allow idling during adverse weather conditions? Heat is an adverse weather condition.

Colin: I thought you could idle in the non idling states if you had a pet onboard? Haven't read the link above so perhaps I shouldn't have asked the question. However, every driver tells me that you can if you have a pet. I'm telling every driver go get a hamster or something and idle.
I'm not an advocate for large pets on the trucks due to odor and pest control. However, I realize many drivers bring pets with them. EECCKK. One day in Colorado I saw a guy get out and walk a huge dog. I was thinking to myself--no way, there's not enough room for me and a large dog on the truck. Before the dog walking was over, he walked two medium sized dogs also. I was laughing so hard thinking about sharing beds with ticks and flees I couldn't stop. Guess what there was also a woman on the truck also. OH MY GOODNESS-NO WAY IN HELL IN MY TRUCK. I trip over the gear shift just getting to the passenger seat. No way, no way, no way.... 8)

Last time I knew, heat never caused a road to be shut down. Pretty much come Jan 1, 2008, drivers will no longer be able to idle in order to maintain comfort levels in their rigs. Now here is a real kick in the pants. If you have an APU and think no problem, I will just fire it up and be all comfy think again. None of the APU's currently on the market meet CA new emission laws which go into effect Jan/08. I wonder what those of you who run out to California are going to do come Jan/08?

The exemptions do state one for what appears to be container drivers: "Queuing beyond 100 feet of residential units" What about: "Prevent safety or health emergency" Could that be interpreted as preventing hypothermia or heat stroke? Well I have wicked asthma so I'm sure I should be exempted!!! Thank goodness, there's no way I could survive long in 100 degree temps whether it's west or east coast without idling.
Although, I'd say I much prefer the west coast due to the low humidity. Lived in humid climates for over 1/2 my lifetime and won't go back. You guys can have the green grass and trees. Frankly, I can't stand that humidity!!! Colin, you never answered my question regarding the pets. If your list was inclusive I guess the answer is no?!? 8)
