Community college truck driver training day 3. Didn't know what to expect when I started so I am happy to report I have not been disappointed so far.
I can now back up in a straight line very well and hope to have backing around corners mastered in the near future.

I am thinking Roehl, Boyd or Maverick as my first choices for employment. Flatbed sounds like fun. (or NASCAR team transporter driver but Dale Jr. isn't taking my calls.)

Well there is an Old song about a driver going backwards from Chicago to Birmingham...

As for Nascar, I hope you have a mechanical training also... I did get to watch Dale Sr transport Race up I 85 and get busted. Got shut down on I 95 due to a blown tire. While I waited for a tire repair I watched all the Haulers get pulled in and all the DOT officers come out and collect their bribes.

I have heard stories about the convoy of NASCAR haulers doing 90+ to or from a race. I have heard that the driver has to fill another postion on the team also, like catch can or gas man or something on the pit crew. I have also heard some of them have non pit crew/ mechanic type duties with the teams. It would be fun, but for a younger single man I think.

Why does the Coat Guard have a minimum hieght requirement of 6 ft tall?
So if the boat sinks the crew can walk to shore.

It is the first and last 100 feet of every trip that is the hard part. Everything else in between is easy. :wink:

JayB that was a good one 6 ft tall to walk to shore, never heard that one LOL. Actually that is the only one there is!! Anyway they got rid of that requirement when the 44 MLB was introduced. That is the the boat that rolls over in a heavy sea. The only requirement there is not to spill your beer.

NASCAR truck drivers load the spare parts, rags, food, tools etc...Most of them serve as the cook for the week. I actually checked into it and one of the requirements was knowing how to cook WELL...

BTW...ROEHL offered me a good deal. Since I was in the military they would hire me on for a year at 500/week salary. I would have to go to two or three weeks training unpaid as well as pay for my own hotel. Great deal! Still looking....

Hey Crhis, why don't you look into Maverick? I have been doing alot of searching myself and would love to go Maverick but I'm not in their hiring area, or is it you don't want to drive flatbed?

Wow, that really does sound like a great deal. Maybe they would let me pay for the maintenance on the truck I drive, too. I am in the hiring area for Maverick and am hoping for a call from them. Application was just sent in today. Sent one to Boyd Bros. also.

I wouldn't mind driving for Maverick either. I don't own a truck (i thought they were 100% O/O???) and know one will take my experience because it's not within 3 years. I don't really want to go with a trainer for six weeks. I guess I'll just go back to hauling gas when I get out. I got fingerprinted today for my HAZMAT.

I thind if I was looking for a gig I would go cpm instead of salary unless it was greater than 650. Starting with even the mill companies you earn $0.28/m 500/.28=1786 miles. Works great if you're home 3 or 4 days a week, but if you're truly OTR you're going to drive more than 2000 miles a week and end up losing in the deal.
