I just got off the phone with one of my trucking buddies. He told me that a few days ago he was assigned a load to pick up.He felt he couldn't deliver this load legally. He told the company to either change the delivery time or he was turning in the truck. They refused to change the load so he took his truck to the yard and quite.Going to the yard was on the way to pick up the load so he didn't go out of route.Did he make a big mistake?I told him that he quite under a load and they would probably put it on his DAC.What consequences would this have? Just trying to find out some info for him.

If they put "Quit Under Dispatch" on his DAC Report, your friend is going to have a tough time getting another good trucking job. It makes him seem unrealiable and unprofessional. He can explain his side of the story to potential employers, but it will be an up hill battle.

It depends on the company that he was working for. They may put it on his record. I would not worry about it myself. The best companies out there don't use DAC, anyway. In 14 years I only worked for 1 company that used it.
Mostly the mega carriers use it, and I don't ever go near them. I will NOT drive a truck that has more than 3 digit number.I advise against them, unless you like being treated like(no, not a number) live stock.

Whether a company uses DAC or not is irrelevant. The relevant issue is that any potential company is going to have to contact this former employer and will be told over the phone or by fax that the driver quit under dispatch.
DAC is not the evil here...DAC is just the information storage location that a lot of companies use. It's the company that is responsible for the employment information, whether they put that on DAC, do it over the phone, or do it by fax. Whatever method the company uses, the information will still be the same.

I can't believe someone would quit over a delivery time. Just advise them you can't make it and deliver it when you can. That just seems so silly to quit like that.

However, you'd be surprised how many companies don't even contact previous employers.

There is the issue, these outlaw companys make it look like they are leaal, i work for a company right now that tells all of its drivers in Orintation that they dont care about logbooks as long as it looks leagal wehn we turn them in. Now lets say i ot to DOT and tell them this and they goto the company, who are they going to belive??? there needs to be more checks done on companies, b/c if the driver screws up the company is not being looked at.....
