I don't think it's fair? That jerk shouldn't have given you a ticket. I would take this one to court. You know he was just screwing with you by giving you a ticket for something else because he knew that if he gave you a ticket for not having a log book it would have never fly in court. The judge would have thrown it out and reprimanded the DOT officer for doing such a stupid thing!
Dude throw out the DOT rule book! No one uses it anymore, it's over rated. If any one screws with you just tell them that you pay their wages and they should have gone to college and them tell them to get a real job. Don't sweat the DOT, they are just there to make Joe Public think the state really cares about safety. Log books??? Seriously, Who really needs them?

You should know better. I would have told him the wheels don't turn until I have all the legal tools needed. Not off to a very good start for a new employer. I wonder what else they will tell you to do illegally?

I was told by my employer that I didnt need one because I'm local. Not gone for days at a time.
That advice also got my employer a $583.00 fine (PA).
Oh, because I was local, I didnt need a fire extinguisher & triangles, OR need to stop at scales either.....Right.
This was all in the same stop. Fines totaled nearly $1000.00. I didnt pay a dime.
Good thing I covered my a$$ and asked about all this as soon as I started the job, or it would've came out of my pocket.

It this for real?
The cop gave you a break- as others have said, your ticket will have far less impact on your new career. Get legal, get you log and keep truckin!

When I decided to go back trucking and signed up for a refresher driving course is I stopped at the Pilot and bought 3 two dollar logbooks because feces occurs and I have lost a logbook before.

Why wouldn't I be for real? I agree with this guy. Log books aren't necessary, he didn't think so and I agree with him.
