no log and pulled over!!!

So I start a new job today and the boss is out of log books! He tells me to go ahead and make my toledo, oh to indianapolis, in run and he will have me one tomorrow. Well I end up oulled over by indiana troopers for a checkup!!! They asked for my log and I looked stupid sittin there! After hearing my entire story they ticket me for "disregarding traffic signs", a $150 fine! Then they tell me they cut me a lot of slack and to never leave without a log again!!! So, was this fair? What could have happened?

FYI, they sell logbooks at truck/ fuel stops. The trooper must have felt sorry for you, or was trying not to bust a gut laughing. I am sure this will make the Trooper Monthly Magazine.

It is you, the drivers responsibility to have a logbook, not the companies. I don't know what the fine is in IN for failure to keep a log, but he could have parked you for 10.

Yeah park it for 10 hrs , it just happened to me cause my log time was off

unkut2003 08-27-2007 07:31 PM

So take the $150 and consider myself lucky?

Part Time Dweller 08-27-2007 07:34 PM

Lucky isn't really the word I would use, but due to posting rules, yeah, that will work.

unkut2003 08-27-2007 07:37 PM

Is there a fine for no log too, or just out for 10?

Uturn2001 08-27-2007 07:59 PM

Oh yeah there is a fine for no log book, and in some states it is a biggie.

For being raised here, I honestly dont know what TX DOT fines for not having a log book, or one not caught up. Every time that I have ever been pulled over by a TX State Trooper, or DOT, I have not ever had one look at my log book. I have always been asked if I have my log book caught up. I always told them that it was caught up, and they said, ok, etc..

It is rare that I have been pulled in to a weigh station or had an inspection that I was not asked for my log book. It is better to spend $2 for a log book than hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on fines. Consider it a cheap lesson.

You got off lucky, essentially you got a "fix it" ticket. Pay it and go buy a logbook.

Just because the boss says one thing doesnt mean it will come out of HIS wallet.
