Have you considered going back to Schneider? Once you have a CDL, I am not sure you would need to go through training again, but you will likely need to go with a trainer. You may also be able to pay for a refresher course, instead of going through the entire training program. Most carriers will want you to stay out 2-3 weeks or perhaps longer when you first start. You may find something regional which might get you home more frequently, but unless you are willing to do what the company needs, you may want to look for another line of work. We all have to pay our dues. There are very few carriers who allow otr drivers to get home each week when they first start out. You cannot go in and dictate to a company what you are willing to do. They tell you what they need and if you meet their needs and you check out, they may give you a shot. There are companies who will get you home once a week, but most will not hire inexperienced drivers. If you want to work locally, you need to plan on working otr for at least 1 year. That seems to be the magic number for minimum experience that we hear local companies want. Occasionally, we hear about someone who starts out and lands a local job, but that isn't the norm.
