Shifting question

Default Shifting question
Instead of double-clutching, is it possible to kind of half-clutch it? When you shift gears, and you bring it out of gear without pressing the clutch pedal, but use the clutch pedal to put it into the next gear? (Have not had the chance to try it) :?:

Yes, that will work, as long as the engine RPM matches the road speed for the gear you are trying to shift into.

Ive done that many times.

You are half way to "floating" the gears.

The reason I would do that is it seems to be a tad more difficult to get it in the gear than to bring it out.

It depends on what and when you are planning on shifting this way..

It depends on what and when you are planning on shifting this way..
I'd normally prefer to double-clutch, but when you're driving a low-boy and pulling a 96'000 lbs. excavator, you have to be quick on that gear-shift, otherwise the truck will have stopped by the time you get it into the next gear, causing it to choke down. I've heard there's not much time for double-clutching, unless you have a foot-of-fury...

I had the opposite experience. On my path to floating, I started by clutching out and then floating in. It took me the most time to get the hang of pulling it out at just the right moment. Even now, if I ever do use the clutch when changing a gear, it's almost always to clutch out. I don't find the clutch helps much when getting in, though it does sometimes.

I can float down shifting better than up shifting. I can't pull it out of gear at the right time when up shifting. I guess it just takes time.
