Shifting question

Instead of double-clutching, is it possible to kind of half-clutch it? When you shift gears, and you bring it out of gear without pressing the clutch pedal, but use the clutch pedal to put it into the next gear? (Have not had the chance to try it) :?:

The reason I would do that is it seems to be a tad more difficult to get it in the gear than to bring it out.
