Default ? about Millis

Applied to MTI about 2 weeks ago and received a letter in the mail today with the DOT physical forms and a congrat. letter.

I had actually forgot about applying to them and have applied for a WIA in my state to attend a local school. This school would be considered a CDL mill. I would like to get the best training available seeing as this is going to be my career.

?'s :
I checked their website and didn't see anything about detention pay. Do they offer this pay?

Where are their lanes primarily? What types of freight?

What types of equipment are they running? How old?

Is their training any different than any other school?

Do they have forced routing?

I have heard that there contract has changed. is this true? if so how?

If you work for millis and can answer these ?'s for me I appreciate it.
Just want to find out before calling.

They do offer good training how ever Better like hauling 3 things BEER, Glass bottles and PAPER. Also better like sitting waiting to load and also forget about unloading pay. The equipment they claim is O/O spec. Yet I know of nobody that puts small engines in their trucks and then turns them down. Miles will suck unless you are a butt kisser and willing to run ILLEGAL. Better best would be go to the school then if it is PDTI certified go with either Crete or if it is not go with Roehl. I would know about Millis I worked for them and almost lost everything I had in 6 months with them.

I allways get miles and without running illegal or kissing butt. you forgot to mention scrap cans! you will haul plenty of other items but yes beer is millis's bread and butter and paper is always available. what difference does it make what you haul if your paid by the mile. as for the original poster millis is a very good starting company and you will find a lot of guys there with 5-10 plus years. they are not perfect but who is. best thing about the company is if you need something you can pick up the phone and they are willing to help. all the owner have CDL and Mike Millis who is in charge of training actually drove OTR for his father (company's founder)

yes but they do have a few companys that they will not force to pay but a lot of those are drop and hook

Where are their lanes primarily? What types of freight?

east of the mississippi no forced NY

What types of equipment are they running? How old?

3 years and newer. T2000 (on the way out the door) T600 and T800

Is their training any different than any other school?

its not a CDL mill per say. it is short but they push safety plus you go out with a trainer for 3 weeks before you take your test for your cdl

Do they have forced routing?

no if you go way out of route you will get a nasty message.

I have heard that there contract has changed. is this true? if so how?

yes but I dont know the details

If you work for millis and can answer these ?'s for me I appreciate it.

honestly millis is a pretty laid back company as long as you get your loads where they need to be and on time you will never hear a thing. they are very forgiving of students and work with you to help you learn the in and outs.

I beg to differ with you. I used to drive for Millis and always got good mileage. Yes they do haul alot of paper and beer and glass. Yes when I had to do a hand unload i always got paid for it. When hauling beer the only time you have to sit and wait is to unload because the beer loads are preloaded and most of the time sitting at a terminal. If things havent changed since I worked there the primary running lanes are from wisconsin either to ga or nc to the northeast. I was never forced to run illegal and i didnt kiss any butt but i did run hard and didnt screw around. If you just about lost everything you must not have been willing to work hard or something cause I never had a problem and I was on East coast Verns board. The only reason I left there was cause of three minor incidents in a year

Thanks mud, I am going to make up my mind this weekend, but, I would say it will be Millis.

It is down to Millis, Hunt, and Mcelroy. I tried TMC and they couldn't sponsor
me because of low credit. Schneider coudn't give me dedicated.

Hunt is probably a pipe dream, but they have a terminal about 30 miles away also, and they are a sub. of Crete. Which says alot.

Mcelroy can get me home every weekend but that doesn't matter to me. Unmarried and all of my friends are married, so, not much to do.

Millis was the choice I made before Hunt and Mcelroy. Just from there website i could tell they had class.

What I will haul really dosen't matter as much as downtime. want to keep moving as much as possible. Also know that waiting is part of the job, be it at the shippers or on the road.

Just want a good first try with a good first company.

Thanks in advance all that can help.

You now have to pay back the $2,500 for training. $500 down, then once you are hired, it's $20 per week taken out of each check, for 100 weeks.

Ahh thats new when I started with Millis you paid 500 up front for training and if you signed a year contract you owed nothing but if you quit before the year was up you still owed 2 grand also check out WH Transportation also if you went through a school to get your cdl. Thats who I am currently with and we have a Georgia regional. 48 state carrier

That was a pretty sweet deal, and one of the reasons I was looking into Millis for when I get my new career started next year. They started the new policy a couple months ago. Don't know why. Besides paying back the $2500, it's a 2 year contract now. I still might stick to my original plan and go with 'em anyway. From all my reasearch, it sounds like they are good company to drive for....we'll see.
