I finally got to stop in there, once.... but I settled for the Ribeye! Besides.... don't think I can GET there before they close! If I had it for BREAKFAST..... I'd have to shut down for ANOTHER 8!! Hey, you keep saying you are taking 340 from Alamosa to Amarillo! I do not even see that road on the map, oh, never mind, that is the mileage across and over. duh. Later.

HAHA, yeah Hobo your right about my math!! I think I left out the mileage from Clayton, New Mexico to Amarillo. I have the right figures as far as hours go, not including fuel and rest stops. For those, I added on an extra half hour and also held the average speed down a little to that 50 mph average just in case. Just wrong on my overall distance, sorry dawg.
ops: Def looks like your gonna run hard to make that trip in 2 days. Hobo, that 55, are you talking about taking it all the way down to Memphis or just running down to 57North and then cutting across Rt. 60 at Cairo, IL and picking up 24 at Paducah, KY?? Then run 24 down to Nashville??

My old computer is in the shop and my new one hasn't arrived yet. So I don't have my routing software available at the moment. The GPS is much handier on the fly, but I have to be at the starting place. The is a convoluted way around it, but I am feeling particularly lazy right now. First, back log. You didn't sit at the shipper for three hours, but only 30 minutes. Take the most direct route. At the end of the day average the miles driven by the speed limit in that state. That way you don't have to worry about mountains, turns, cities or any other delay. At 65 mph you can go 715 miles as a solo driver each day. Actually, a little further if you start 7 minutes 29 seconds early and drive and additional 7:29 when you stop. If you use qualcomm learn where the fuse is. Fuel in the mornings and do your PTI and load check at the same time.

But the 14 hour clock will be ticking all day! I had heard of a few that took US 40 to Hays, and wanted to know if anyone here would come up with that one. There's a sign on I-70 around there (or Oakley?) that says it's the quickest route to Pike's Peak! Last time I took that route "around" the Dalhart scales, I saw a deer on the side of the road which looked like it had just died of BOREDOM!! US 395 down there to Vega looks like a place you wouldn't want to break down in, either, and I saw a trucker who DID! The vultures were casting LOTS for his carcass!

I pulled this off of mapquest. This is the shortest route. You avoid Illinois all together and take I-40 most of the way, which is what you wanted. It saves 3 hours over a shorter mileage route.
1: Start out going EAST on 4TH ST toward EDISON AVE. 0.3 miles Map 2: Turn LEFT onto US-160 / DENVER AVE. Continue to follow US-160. 71.7 miles Map 3: Turn RIGHT onto MAIN ST / I-25 BL / US-85 / US-87. Continue to follow I-25 BL / US-85 / US-87. 1.2 miles Map 4: Merge onto I-25 S toward TRINIDAD (Crossing into NEW MEXICO). 57.9 miles Map 5: Take the US-64 E / US-87 E exit- EXIT 451- toward RATON / CLAYTON. 0.2 miles Map 6: Turn LEFT onto CLAYTON RD / US-64 / US-87. Continue to follow US-87 S (Crossing into TEXAS). 127.2 miles Map 7: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto US-385 / US-87 / RAILROAD ST S. Continue to follow US-87 S. 38.8 miles Map 8: Turn RIGHT onto US-287 / US-87 / S DUMAS AVE. Continue to follow US-287 S / US-87 S. 46.4 miles Map 9: Merge onto US-87 S via the exit on the LEFT toward I-40. 2.2 miles Map 10: Merge onto I-40 E toward OKLAHOMA CITY / FORT WORTH (Passing through OKLAHOMA and ARKANSAS- then crossing into TENNESSEE). 736.4 miles Map 11: Merge onto I-40 E via EXIT 12C on the LEFT toward NASHVILLE (Crossing into NORTH CAROLINA). 487.0 miles Map 12: Merge onto I-26 E via EXIT 46A toward HENDERSONVILLE / SPARTANBURG (Crossing into SOUTH CAROLINA). 57.9 miles Map 13: Merge onto I-85 N via EXIT 18B toward CHARLOTTE (Crossing into NORTH CAROLINA). 72.4 miles Map 14: Take the BROOKSHIRE BLVD / NC-16 exit- EXIT 36- toward US-74 EAST / DOWNTOWN. 0.2 miles Map 15: Merge onto NC-16 S toward CHARLOTTE / ERICSSON STADIUM. 3.0 miles Map 16: Take the CHURCH ST exit toward TRYON ST. 0.1 miles Map 17: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto W 11TH ST. <0.1 miles Map 18: Turn RIGHT onto N TRYON ST. 0.5 miles Map 19: End at Charlotte, NC US Map Total Est. Be careful cutting the corner of NM. There were miles and miles of road construction with the speed limit being 45. I have never been stopped at the scales in Dalhart. It sounds like you will be driving through there after dark. It will be closed.
