Default Seriously this IS a dumb question

Do the trucks have a little fridge?

I warned you this one is dumb, but I've never been in the cab of a truck and I need to know how I'm going to keep food and drink cool.

I'm sure this should have been posted somewhere else, but where?[/u]

Wish you people would quit thinking you're asking a dumb question-They're not.
Some trucks have them-some don't
If they don't you can buy a cooler with plug in for a reasonable price.

or is it just dumb that I'm quitting a job I've had for 12yrs to start driving, and I've never seen the inside of a tractor?

more questions:

so you drive 14 hrs per day?? or only 11?

with OTR can you drive at night? is this a good idea?

with SNI can my wife ride along periodically?

as a company driver will I have to pay for fuel upfront then get reimb?

do trucks have sat radio/ cd player?

does GPS do your routing?

what is the range on a CB?

what is qualcom?

what is best cellphone company for calling home (Ohio) ALL the time?

These are just a few more questions that are bumpin my noggin

Everyone is new sometime or another

Gas should be paid on gas card

Qualcom is like a cell phone text message from your company

I get to ride with my husband so look in to passenger policy

AT&t get the best over all service except in WY and I don't think there is the best service there in general.

Most have radio and CD player some MP3 not sat.

Sorry I forgot it is a 14 hour window in which you can drive eleven hours. So in fourteen hours you can drive for 11. but if your fourteen are up then you stop and wait til your hours come back.

I think there is some kind of system that will shut off the batteries before they get to low to start. Guess it depends on the truck.

Well 'technically' you can drive 14 hours in a day, but the asphault gods would need to be on your side AND you'd need a 10hr break somewhere in the middle. I don't personally know anyone legally pulling it off but it wouldn't surprise me if it happens. That's some serious travel for any driver too - more likely you'll put in 6-9hr per day depending on what stops you have to make.

You can drive 11 hours out of 14 hours

with OTR can you drive at night? is this a good idea?
Yes, you can drive at night. I prefer night driving during the summer

with SNI can my wife ride along periodically?
I'm sure they have a Rider policy, but I don't know their rules as I've never driven for them

as a company driver will I have to pay for fuel upfront then get reimb?
You'll have a fuel card to cover the fuel purchases

do trucks have sat radio/ cd player?
Again, it depends on the company and how they eqip the truck. I have my own XM unit

does GPS do your routing?
Other than the new trucks at USXpress, I don't know of any company trucks with GPS routing. I use my laptop for that (CoPilot Truck) - I also use Microsoft Streets & Trips

what is the range on a CB?
There are a lot of factors for the range - temperature, humidity, etc. Generally, a stock radio has probably a 1-2 mile range

what is qualcom?
Qualcomm is a satelite terminal for the truck. It is basically a box roughly the size of a closed laptop with a screen and a keyboard. You will do 98% of all of your communication with your dispatcher through this.

what is best cellphone company for calling home (Ohio) ALL the time?
I use Sprint. My plan has 2 phones on it (mine & my wife's) and all calls between the 2 phones are free. Also, between 7pm and 7am are free to any phone in the US.

These are just a few more questions that are bumpin my noggin

with OTR can you drive at night? is this a good idea? I dont drive at night, some prefer it, I dont.

with SNI can my wife ride along periodically? Yes, as long as you check with the company first and get approval

as a company driver will I have to pay for fuel upfront then get reimb?
No.

do trucks have sat radio/ cd player? Mine had a CD, but I bought a sat receiver

does GPS do your routing? I use a cobra navone, but the map is still the best

what is the range on a CB? Depends on how you have it set up. I just use the antennas provided and a cheap radio. Just because you can talk farther doesnt mean that those on other end are going to be smarter

what is qualcom? Satellite communications between you and the company, looks similar to a laptop

what is best cellphone company for calling home (Ohio) ALL the time?
I use Verizon for cell and internet

As far as fridges go, I dont want one, just more weight and junk in the truck. I keep a case of water on hand, it tastes the same whether its warm or cold add to that I only have non-perishable food on board. The only thing I have to replace frequently would be bread.
