You have to lift 336 pounds off the floor? Move 100 pounds shelf to shelf? Care to elaborate on what all this means? It sounds like a whole lot of boxes that should be labeled "TEAM LIFT ONLY" to me. Wow. I could probably do all that, still, but not for too many more years. I ain't 20 anymore. It's because I did stuff like that when I was 20 that I'm such an aching mess today.

Sorry, my bad - the physical abilities test appears to be a set of test to see if you are physically able to do the job - not limits of what you must do.

Test one is an aerobic step test to see if you can climb steps for 3-minutes without passing out. The next two tests are strength tests where they tie a scale to you and see what your average strength is over a five second period - key word being average. Test one is a chain tied to the floor - I averaged 336# over five seconds. Test two is a chain bolted to the wall - 180# average. Test three is a box filled with lead moved from a shelf 30" to a shelf 48" (or something like that) at arms length - I got to 100# and copped out - not as easy as it sounds. My posture was good on all accounts which means the doctor didn't see any physical signs of injury or illness.

Apparently all of that wasn't good enough for Yellow.

When my Hazmat cleared though all the points I gathered in my cross country treks suddenly appeared on my local record. Right now I have 4 points (speeding) on my 3-year record with two dropping off this December. I have no felonies or DUIs. ...... My 7-year record is a mess.

Suddenly I find myself untouchable. Many, many companies tell me they would love to hire me, but their policies dictate zero points, or one conviction in 5 years, or 3 years behind the wheel experience.
Perhaps, there's a lesson for ALL here. With the current state of "fear mongering" in this administration, and the violation of FISA rules, and expansion of government investigative powers....

UNLESS you absolutely HAVE to have Hazmat for your job..... it is not WISE to invite such scrutiny!

Most newbies think the more endorsements they can get, the better their chances of getting hired. Obviously, not necessarily true.

If your 7 year record is "messy," apply only to companies wanting a 3 year record. When you ask for a Hazmat endorsement now, you are opening a can of worms! If you EVER got in trouble in High School with something like POT, or misdemeanor mischief, it will NOW be a point of public record where companies are concerned.

Try Celadon. They have a point system that includes any activity before application. I was having trouble and I rated very 'low' on their point system. It's like golf, the low score wins.

There is logic there - before the X my state refused to transfer the points over - wasn't worth their time. Now because the record is listed in tranfer order (not chronological) it appears at a glance that I got my CDL in May and the very first thing I did was go out and get a ticket in VA in July. I've taken to highlighting the issue date 2006 just to be sure the employer sees that the ticket was well before I got my CDL.
