Default Fudge your log book......

Heya i was talking to a driver for PAE pride air express, he hauls frieght for DHL.. anyway he was saying that the real only way to make any good money driving a truck now a days is you have to cheat the logbook... he says most everyone out there is cheating the books..

I dont wana start in this proffesion knowing i have to run illegal.. can anyone attest to this at all?

I am going to be team with wife also... do they cheat?

You CAN make a living without cheating the logs, IF you can keep your job! Many companies, unfortunately, will expect this of you. Find another company, or stand up to them and see how bad they really NEED drivers!

Redefine what you call a "good living."

Teams have no reason to need to cheat the logs. This is perhaps the best way to run legal and be in trucking these days.

Well...everyone defines "good money" a little differently....

Driver...the "excitement" of cheating wears off pretty fast...especially if/when the DOT catches you--that's when you realize all the extra $$ you just earned cheating goes to paying the DOT fine.... :shock: :lol:

There is a difference between "rethinking your logbook perspectives", and running a comic book.

My advice?? Start out logging it as you drive it; after a few months, you'll have a better idea where you can shave of wasted time.

Those 15min. segments DO add up; learn to use them to your advantage.

Driver you talked with is a Moron
He'll soon see how that "Good Money" is gonna be gone when He(and probably the company he drives for) gets a Monstrous Fine(and possibly More).

Run as legal as possible, and keep your logbook as straight as possible. Even without concerning yourself with coloring, you will have more than enough trouble learning how to do it correctly. You will make lots of mistakes, you may not even notice at first. It takes time to learn all aspects of keeping your logs. Your days are not going to be easy to schedule, and if you start confusing yourself too much, you will really jam yourself up.

It will become easier for you, the more you do it, and what you are able to tweak or fudge will become easier to see and feel comfortable in doing. Right now, you will be offended by any tiny "cheat or lie." (and possibly tripped up with the DOT)(they are much smarter than you right now)

Keep your receipts matching your logs. When you cross scales, tolls and buy fuel are easily checked. I won't discuss all the many colors of gray you will eventually use. Right now....just learn to do it legal. Your going to drive for a year at Rookie pay anyway...so don't even sweat the BIG BUCKS yet. Yer a couple hundred thousand miles away from being a "Super Trucker" anyway.

Later, you will see things that are more the cluster fork of the anal retentive Bureaucratic Numb Nutz who licks Congressional butt, and you will find it easier to "stick it to the Man."....even if it is only an insignificant gesture.

I couldn't agree more use the bottom two lines very wisely.

I don't think anyone actually logs every minute exactly as it was done I think we would all be fooling ourselves

But there is really no reason to run a complete comic book either because you will get caught

As mentioned here before, you need to manage the log book well.
If you are running team your logs MUST match each other as well documented time {fuel stops, ect}.
