I have offers from both a LTL freight company, non union(5 night runs-drop and hook) and a local foodservice delivery company (4-5 day workweek). Both are going to make about the same money, just different hours and work. I want to stay in shape, but don't want to break my body down either. Any advice...I know, it's my choice. Both have good equipment and good people working there. Both are constantly looking for drivers though. Any questions I should ask?

I'd go with the LTL freight fellers. That food service is good, too, but it can catch up with ya. :P

 

But what if you get to haul MEAT?....or PIES...or MEAT PIES???

I've known alot of food service people who now have knee and back problems from the pounding up and down the ramp for years. LTL is alot easier, go to the gym and get a proper workout, your knees will thank you when you turn 40.

 

People are always going to need food so freight shouldn't slow down.

 

Hey trucker4life, if ya havent decided yet, and I am sure you have thought about it, but always look into what company's have to offer. It's fun to work somewhere, where you enjoy it, even though, you want what's best for you as in benefits, insurance, and stuff. Let us know how it goes. Best of luck. 8)

 

Go LTL it is terminal to terminal, no tight parking lots and 4 wheelers to deal with. If it is Con-way you will work the dock a couple of hours at one end but it won't be as tough as running foor up and down a ramp with a dolly or pallet jack. You also won't have to fight as much of the weather. Good luck with your choice.
