Default Career Change

I have been lurking for a while and decided to register. I worked in the textile industry for 28 years and have had my fill. Time for something new. I can see a lot of questions I have are already asked and answered. I hope this job doesn't go overseas like the last one. I start training classes with a driving school in GA called Katlaw on 03/26/2007. I have searched here and found nothing on them. We will see......Keep Up the great site.

Thanks
Lee

I am in a similiar situation as you. Getting ready for a career change. Been planning it for about 2 yrs now. Done a lot of research and planning. The more you learn...the more you plans change. lol But, the plan gets better. Take your time and make sure your plan is the right plan for you. Also, the obvious part is can you handle being away from home a lot? Some think they will be ok only to find out family life suffers more than they thought. Even if your single with no kids, like me...you have to be able to handle your personal life issues away from home a lot too.

Default Career Change

Here I am, just now facing those same issues the two of you have. I am in my 1st year of planning & expect to be there (OTR) in 3rd year.

Family & financial obligations, as well as current employment requirements prevent me from taking the HUGE LEAP. Although, it may not necessarily be a barrier, I am a determined Canadian female and a rookie with a huge support network of my own. Planning that path is only as good as our information highway is. I will never stop asking questions and never turn down good advice.

Best of Luck to all the Rookies & Safe Driving to All!

I have solved most of the problems, kids are grown and gone. Nothing left here to hold me from OTR career. Family is spread across the US like seeds in the wind. Just point me in a direction, I have been wanting to do this since I was 18...........Now it's my turn to worry about what I want to do. I hope you all find your calling too.

Funny, I thought about doing this a few times when I was younger too. Grew up near a truck stop and had my Dad take me over there when I was about 10. Said I want to talk to a driver about driving a big truck. So, Dad took me to the truck stop and found a driver having some minor maintenance being done to his truck. Dad told him I was his boy and that I may want to drive when I get older. Would he recommend this for another guy? I still remember the guying smiling and saying "Well...its a great job. But, it does have its ups and downs like other jobs. But, if you are married and have kids...it may not be for you." I considered driving again in 1994, but didnt do it. Considered it again in early 2000 and was closer to doing it, but didnt. In February of 2005 I finally made the decision I would drive, but wasnt sure what type of truck I would drive.

Howdy Screwbal!

Seems a lot of us "Old Fartz" are changing careers after a quater decade or so in the same job.
I wanted to drive when I was younger, but took a day job to stay home and help raise the kids. Now they're all gone and raising their own,so it's off to fullfill my dream.
Hope to see ya around here awhile.
These guys are great and answer every question.

Hey Screwbal, I am also in the situation where I need a new career. I have no training for anything and I am having trouble finding a decent paying job. I hope to be on the road soon. Good luck at school! I hope you find what you are looking for.

I don't know exactly where in Georgia you are located, but you might want to give Millis Transfer a call. They have classes in Cartersville GA, and they are a very good company. BOL
