Im sorry if this is a vague or dumb question. Just wondering how these pay sccales work? Whats the pros/cons? Thanks

 

What is the question?

 

Basically a job that pays percent means that you get paid a percentage of what the truck grosses per load.

If the load pays $1000 to the truck and you get paid 25% then you make $250 for that load.

The three biggest cons to being paid by percent are:

It is easy for the company to lie about what it got paid, especially if they are unwilling to show you the invoices upon request.

You do not get paid for dead head miles.

If the company has a habit of hauling low paying freight you will not make much.

Pro's:

You can potentially make more if the company goes after high dollar freight.

 

say like PVC pipe, mulch, rock/stone, shingles. etc would that be a good load to run. cause i am starting for a company that runs these items as well as others

 

In my experience, mulch, rock/stone, and building materials (lumber, shingles, etc.) usually falls under the "low-dollar freight" category and doesn't pay nearly as well as steel, machinery, or "fabbed" items...

I drive flatbed for PGT and we're paid percentage.

Too be honest, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they told me I could just throw those lumber tarps off at the nearest terminal...

 

yeah im not really sure what all i'll be hauling but thats what they said they haul. i get a new flatbed trailer when i start up so if anything happens to it i did it. no slip seating/trailering

 

Nothing wrong with slip seating. It actually pays pretty well.

 

yeah this guy like to be able to know who messed/dirtied up the truck. thats why we get our own truck and trailer
