Around here I see the pay range from $10.00/hr to $21.00/hr. with the average "blue collar" job being $11.00 to $12.00 per hr. Also smaller companies that are not self-insured are at the mercy of their insurance carrier as to the level of experence needed to drive there.

I do ok. And unlike most of my fellow truckdrivers, I only had about 4 months OTR, the rest was local. Of course, it all depends on location, and the time of the year.
Good luck.

I guess you could say i was an exception to the rule, but i went local right out of school, this was and is a very unlikely circumstance though, so don't get your hopes up. Like everyone else says, he's going to probably need atleast 2 years to land a good local gig that has decent pay, he could probably find jobs with less experience, but don't expect to make the big bucks.

I'm local with no OTR experience, I got turned down a lot but in the end it only took one place to say yes. Look long and hard if local is what you guys want, long haul is no place to be if you don't want it. You'd be amazed at how many people think they'll go OTR for a year for experience to go local and either fail miserably or end up staying OTR. Look at what you really want and go get it.

I can get a local driving job tomorrow. However, I'm not gonna work for $6.50-8.00 per hour that they pay in this area.
