I got my CDL in OCT 01 and was in Werner's training program from Nov.-Feb. '02. I failed my final test twice because my backing was kind of lacking. I never hit anything backing but the testers felt that it would only be a matter of time before I did and I guess they considered it a preemptive strike on a possible liability.
Since that time I worked doing drive away with RVs and straight trucks and for the past five years I've worked for a small company as a driver switching between an Isuzu and an International 4700. I love the job that I have but sometimes I just get a yearning to get back on the road. I just don't know of any companies that would take a chance on me considering I've never driven a semi solo and it's been so long since I've been in the seat. Just looking for a few suggestions.

What I would recommend is finding a company that offers Refreshers/Training courses. Call a few of the companys you are considering and explain to them your situation. Most will want to take a refresher course and then go out with a trainer for a couple of weeks. Go to www.roadmaster.com and go to the get hired link and a list will come up for their school in Indiana for the companys that hire there in Indiana. They are all major carriers but ya have to start somewhere. Good luck.
