I'm guessing from this thread that you all have never met each other in a rest stop or t-stop for that matter????
Nobody has ever seen anyone else doing a pretrip, but you all claim you do'em. HMMM. I've seen and done em, but I' really don't get paid to check and make sure my fellow driver does. I guess I'm just to busy.

Riiiiight. The guy who did lose his trailer he failed to check to see if it was hooked, and was trying to show off. since I just embraced him. He had an easy door to back into and had a hard time at it. the Door I was assigned to was hard, yet I went in with ease. So he backed under his preloaded trailer, raise the landing gear, hooked his lines, and jumped in and gunned the engine. WHen he stopped he had moved 2 Truck and trailers lengths away. He tried to crank it back up but the load was to heavy for him, so the Shipper had to go out with the forklift. I have hooked to a trailer and checked it out. Left the shipper and go to a T/S to scale out and get a bit and not do a walk around afterwards. Thanks to another Driver who called me over the CB and let me know I had a flat on the trailer. When someone called me over the CB to tell me something wrong with my truck, I was sure to thank them. Things happens... Even when you just checked them 30 minutes prior something could happen in the mean time. What I use to like about trucking was we looked out for each other, no matter what the name on your trucks Door. But what I understand I see that no longer the case, and it's a Shame.

first of all, uglymutt, how long you been driving?? last i heard you were with a trainer in jersey or something getting passed by 8omph company trucks. and you have seen several trailers disconect?? also, you saw some dickhead pulling fifth wheel pins and did nothing. who is the jack ass? do i pretrip everytime i roll? nope. but i do not stop once i am rolling either. the way i see it, the trailers have tires...check, with air in them...check. lights all work...the important ones...check. brakes work...at least a little bit...check. TIME TO GO. see ya when i pass you and your trainer uglymutt, maybe not, you are at the truck stop watching people endager my life and others and doing nothing about it other than watching. man the bs never ends.

On the 30 minute thing ...
In 30 minutes .. the time it took me to walk across the street, get a coffee and return to the tractor .. somebody stole the LED lights on the back of the trailer .. I caught this because I always do a walk around before getting into the truck. I have also caught myself many times with the fuel cap off but the walk around before geetting into the truck caught it before I made a mess. In addition to pre-trips .. I feel it is important to stop every three hours or so .. not only to take a break but to look at the truck. You see in a car a failure might be inconvient .. in a 40 ton missle . a failure might be fatal What I have found in a "safety check" inspection that prevented disaster .. 1. Broken spring supporting Air hoses .. air hose was dragging on ground. 2. Low tires .. tires with objects in them. 3. Seperated tread (no problem at pre-trip but tire heat seperated tread) 4. Loose Oil filter (vibration made the problem happen) This is in a years experince. Just think what would happen if I just drove and only checked things out at the end of the day? BTW) Why do complete pre-trips .. I found a loaded trailer with no brake chambers or air hoses. To this day I can not figure out what happened. Just that there was a major problem .... BTW2) As a courtesy to your fellow drivers .. when you find a bad trailer .. mark it according to your companies proceedures (like red tag the glad hand connections) and report it. Maybe your maintinace department does not care .. but why make the next driver trying to find an MT with a problem? Maybe they just connect up and kill somebody ...

:x i  found a cracked frame where the bolts run thru it behind the cab. it was on a pretrip inspection i did while recovering an abandoned unit for last company. imagine frame breaking between 5th wheel and cab  glad to see most posters do some kind of inspection. i ride an old harley and pre trip is what kept it running 35 years. whether ya get paid or not, it is part of our job, every freakin' day. quit whinin' and git your lazy butt out of the truck and do it. anything with 2 or more parts can and will break! good post. i got to stop all the time just to check load securement anyway, whats a few more minutes?

I agree we need to look out for one and another, why these freaks are gettin off on doing evil is beyond me but it happens and it will catch up to everyone who says I never seen that before, because i see it all the time, you will never know if the guy you see is he owner of the truck, i walk around mine all he time so i must look like a tweaker, its like nobody cares about nothin but themselves which is fine too, but its not good when piss'n trashy steal'n fools are also drivers.... its like this everywhere, I know i piss inside and put trash in the can so i am lookin out for myself not to be like them.....
