Heya all, just wanted to know some things on joining the Trucking ind, with my wife..
We are 23 and 25 and do not have are CDL's.. We will be getting those then we plan on hitting the open road togather. Couple Q's.. We have no kids or anything holding us to WA state where we live so there is no real reason to come back to our Apt other then to bs with old friends... So is there a company or do company's let you just stay out bouncing from city to city gettin miles? and taking our home time where ever we end up.. to kinda explore the USA.. Second is whats a good honest wage combined that we can look at gettin a month / year running teams? we ofcourse have 1 bank account so all the money is combined so i am trying to get a idea of what we could be looking at getting.. Currently we both work in sells making 22-30k ea a year.. but dont like all the hassel of customers etc and want to be driving.. so any help with those could do wonders for us.. thanks in advanced..

Companies are more than happy to let you stay out as long as you want running freight. Most companies do not have a problem with you taking your time off in locations other than your home, just do not expect them to get you to a certain location for time off. They may try but it may not happen.
A first year husband/wife team can expect to make between 60,000 and 70,000/yr on average. Experienced teams can bring in $75-100,000 per year.

Just remember that when taking your time off, you will not be able to drive the truck since you should be taking your 34 hour restart so you'll have no transportation to "tool around town" with.

You have seriously consider that you'll be in the same small compartment for 24hrs a day, 7 days week. There is no "other room" to run to get away from each other. You'll be using public restrooms and showers and generally dealing with the piggish behavior of other drivers.
If you hate customer service.........you wont like trucking much either. You have to deal with idiot shpr/rcvrs , long waits at docks etc etc etc. I love my wife but I know we would kill each other if we were stuck in the truck for 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.

My hubby and I have been teaming for a little over a year. Its not always easy to "go see the sites". However, we have had a few chances to rent a car, stay in a hotel and see different places. Most companies wont just let you leave their equipment anywhere...some require it be at a secured location like a terminal. But believe me when I say.....take your hometime and get out of the truck!
It doesnt matter how much you love being with each other after awhile they will get on your nerves...even though one of you are sleeping while the other driving. Make sure you give each other "space". Its hard to do but in a small cab it can get even smaller when you get into a disagreement. I want to wish you the best of luck and if you have any question pls feel free to pm or email me. Mtdewr
