As long as you're not doing point to point deliveries in the U.S it's no big deal. You'll have to send a form telling the tax department where you'll be filing your taxes.

Default Get the US Trucking Company to Sponsor YOU

A canadian can not work in the USA unless he is authorised (Permant Resident or Working Visa) and gets a Social security # so he can pay taxes... A Canadian driver can drop a load and pick one up to take back to Canada...but thats it... No running around the USA picking up, dropping etc.... The US already has 12,000,000 illegal Mexicans working there, do you think they want more?

I was about to get hired by Mercer and I'm Canadian. I'd do the same type of work I'm doing now: moving freight between USA and Canada; and between points in Canada. Unless you have a green card or work permit, you cannot move freight between points in the USA. Mercer pays percentage and it's in U.S. dollars. They don't care if you're Canadian or American: the pay is the same for everyone (75% of 99% gross for flatbed work; if you own a truck and trailer). Check out www.mercertown.com

In the end I decided to go with a Canadian company though and I leased as o/o to MacKinnon Transport in Guelph, ON.
