Why would you want to give all that up living out of a truck for 40-50k?
Tough to transition to another profession

There is a lot to be said about an income. My salary is waged at $26/hr & union & excellent benefits. I dont work OT, cuz I dont get paid for it. Yes, it sounds gravy but I hate my job.........I am leaving it in 3yrs to drive truck.....that pretty much tells you a lot. I have been working here 20yrs waiting for my kids to grow up.....i will soon have my chance.

Is there some way the Mods could, like, APPEND the last post to every post ColdFrostymug makes??

Anyone of average intelligence, and above average work ethic and drive can do almost anything they put their minds to. The possibilities are vast.

I could only afford to spend three months exploring these "vast possibilities" you speak of. I didn't want to to broke, so I went back to driving a truck. Even working in a factory isn't an option around here. The big factory just kicked 1500 people to the street. As a truck driver, I make more than 77% of people living in this county. There are folks around here living in more expensive houses than mine, driving fancier cars than mine, and statistics imply they must be living like that because they're in debt up to their eyeballs, and teetering on the brink of financial ruin. I looked extremely seriously at moving, and it just doesn't add up. I have skills to get me jobs somewhere other than here, somewhere other than trucking, but I couldn't maintain the same lifestyle in another town, another profession, on what I could earn, and what I would have to pay for housing and other bills. I really don't see any alternatives unless I can afford a 50-75% pay cut. Period. It's not that there is nothing else I could do, but that there is nothing else I could survive on without sacrificing everything I've worked so hard to build. |
