Do you think that a total of 12 hours in driving school is enough before a road test?
While I can drive a big rig certainly better than I could before I started class, I'm still not as confident as I feel I should be before the road test. I still catch a little trouble from time to time shifting, and those right turns are really a pain as well.
How many hours of driving time did you all have when you were in school? (Note: OVER THE ROAD driving NOT backing up in the driving range)

I went to schneider's school a few years ago and I didn't even get as many hours of forward driving as you did. The other trainee got most of the time because he needed the most work. I passed just fine.

I drove 12 hours in class then went out with a trainer for 3 weeks and drove everyday all day then went home to take my test. bol

Sounds like to me you went a good ol'CDL Mill, when i went to school which was a PTDI school each student did 40 hrs. class 40 hrs of backing and roughly 50 hrs. or so driving per student it was 2 to 1 ratio, which included Day and Night driving, then if you still wasn't comfortable and confident they let you a extra week for free to build up confidence. As with anything else ppl. need to do research on school's before they commit.

i too had 12 hrs at school there driving test was a short trip no big deal of corce your be nervous we all were just take your time and think what you have learned so far and then when you go out with your trainer you should have at least 6 weeks to learn how it really is and you will do fine heck i worried about everything and now ive been solo for a wopping 1 month and doing pretty good have not hit anything yet stlll have to grind them to find them at times but everyone does even some more expercened drivers. it all comes with time behind the wheel and you will learn something new every day. good luck if i can help just send me mail

Like rickstephens said just take your time, be patient, and think about what you have learned. I too had 12 hours of driving at school. You know the old saying "practice makes perfect and nobody is perfect". I don't care if you have been driving for 30 years, everyone still has problems. Just be safe in everything you do and you will do all right.

Hmm, 12 hours would be great I had a total of 7 at roadmaster, should have been 8 but a lady in the class was having a tough time so i let her take my last hour of driving on thursday afternoon, after all that crayness i still turned out all right  4 years later, and no accidents or tickets, guess i made out all right.

12 hours on the road driving or all together? On the road driving I had about 1.5 hours worth of driving prior. Driving on their little range so call for CRE, I may had another 6 hours in total.

Default I'll bite

The answer to your question lies in the results of the test. If you pass, it was. If you fail, it wasn't. I respect those that passed with minimal OTR time in school. But i just think schools that place a premium on licenses asap are laying off what would be their responsability to the testers. Who, if they adopted the same MO, would just pass the newbie along to the companies with the hope that they'll fill in the gaps. I'm sorry, but when you consider what's at stake, I think 12 hours isn't enough time to gain the experience one should have to get their license. JMO

I had 1.5 hours backing, no forward time in a semi when I passed my class A test. I had been driving straight trucks for a long time before that though.
