LOUISA - A Virginia man was killed Wednesday when the vehicle he was driving collided with a coal truck on U.S. 23 near Louisa.
Ronald T. Haney II of Scottsville was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Kentucky State Police in Ashland said. A passenger in his 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, Winifred A. Haney, 39, also of Scottsville, was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center. The accident occurred about 11:45 a.m. near the junction of U.S. 23 and Ky. 2565, just south of Louisa. Haney was traveling southbound when he lost control of his vehicle, which veered across the median and struck the northbound coal truck in the side, the KSP said. The impact caused the truck to overturn and spill its load across all four lanes of U.S. 23, the KSP said. The road was shut down for two hours to allow a KSP accident reconstructionist to process the scene and a crew from the Kentucky Department of Highways to clear the debris. The driver of the coal truck, Ray E. Davis II of Hager Hill, was released after treatment at Three Rivers Medical Center, the KSP said. The above is from the local paper. 23 is fairly decent between Ashland and Louisa, wonder how he lost control. I did notice the few times I have been thru there that they should have some guardrails to somewhat keep vehicles from crossing over like this. The speed limit is only 55 last I was thru there which seemed odd to me for being a wide open 4 lane.
The other side of the river on 52(2 lane road) is rough as heck and a wonder why they don't have more truck/car wrecks and the speed limit is the same and slightly higher(60mph) in a few places. Sad deal, I thought this happened just down the road from me. as we have been having a rash of bad wrecks around here. I have a Lousia, VA just thru the woods and Scottsville ain't much further past.

Sad ..
I watched the video and it gave a different story than what the news article said, The guy on the Video made it sound as the Trucker was the one who hit the SUV.. And we wonder why Truckers are called Killer Truck Drivers..

Yeah those median crossovers are a bad deal. I know in Oklahoma they are putting up lots of cable barriers in the center medians at different locations. Tends to keep those 4 wheelers on their side of the highway. They have already saved several lives since they were erected.
