CDL Age Restrictions
You must be at least 18 years of age to hold a CDL. Under federal law, you must be a commercial driver at least 21 years of age to: Drive across state lines Transport hazardous materials or Transport interstate freight (e.g., mail) within the state If you are under 21 years of age, you may be issued a CDL with an "L" restriction. This restriction indicates that your driving privileges are valid only in home state. I googled it...................... There are a few that come up, this is just one of them..........alot of companies out there, each with their own set of rules besides this too.

"class A at 18 and have a "L" restriction" The restrictions may have started in '92 when chauffer licenses were done away with by the feds and the uniform Class "A" licenses were put in place. Since '93 and '94, when I started research for a post service job, the lower age and restrictions have been in place and not what i would consider "something new". BOL

Some states will allow 18 year olds to hold a CDL which is good for intrastate only.
In order to drive a commercial vehicle interstate you must be at least 21 years old per federal regs. With that said, just because you can get a CDL at 18 or 21 does not mean you will find a job. Because of insurance costs very few companies will hire drivers under 23 to 25 years old.
