If the truth be known it would not suprise me if this "finisher" turns out to be really good buds with one or more of the higher ups.
When I went through training with Swift I wrote up a nasty, but accurate, evaluation of my trainer, including the threats that fool made to me if I gave him a bad eval. Well I found out later my trainer was very good freinds with the terminal manager as well as the dispatcher I was assigned to and my report went over like a lead balloon. To this day I still believe that my honesty played a big part in why I never got any miles, was always being critized, etc. Oh well water under the bridge.

Why would you write such a letter, especially if you wanted to stay around. I definitely feel for your bad experience but writing a letter like that won't do much to change what has already happened. Should he get away with treating people like crap...NO. But I think letters like that do more damage to you than to the trainer. Things like this seem to have a way of following us around. I would have requested another trainer and used some lame excuse like we just don't get along or some crap story. Unless you're 110% sure that the person reading your letter will act on it and take corrective action, it's a gamble. It's catch 22 either way. If you're the first to write a nasty eval, then you're labeled a whiner. If others have already written similar evals and he's still there then the company doesn't care. Either way, you lose. I tend to think most companies will take sides with the trainer and not a rookie, who is easily replaced. In your case it seems that's exactly what they did.

While I do not condone many of the things that this trainer did, he has probably been with the company for awhile and has the trust of his diapatcher, term. manager and safety dept.
Now what you did was whine and whine alot. The company I can promise you does not care how he talks to his wife, they don't care about the coffee issue, the smoking, his attitude. They might be somewhat receptive about the logging or speeding issue, but if he has a good record with the company probably not either. Now part of the training process is to see how you handle things and they probably looked at you and said, do we invest in a whiner the $$$ to continue training on someone who will not be happy and want to whine about every litttle thing. Now I am not saying that the way you were treated was professional or the right way to do things, but at some companies that is the way it is. Trucking is a tough business and sometimes it is crude and nasty and the companies look to see how you handle it.

It is not up to me to adjust to a smoking finisher when CFI stated that I would be sent with a NON SMOKING finisher. And, it appears that there are at least two bad apples your finisher and the one I had... A Two Million Mile Safety Award Winning Driver, 26 years of driving experience under his belt, (Having driven for only 2 companies in all those years, 24 of those years were with the company that I drove for!!) Accident, Ticket, and Incident Free?? Yep, he was a real bad apple for sure!! As far as I'm concerned, I had an excellent trainer. As far as the company I drove for was concerned, I had an excellent trainer. As far as the rest of it is concerned, if you just wanted to rant, well, have at it. If you wanted feedback, I offered my thoughts on the matter. Your attitude?? That's a matter between you, another trainer, and whoever hires you. As a trainee who lasted eight (count'em!! 8!!) days, I'm quite certain that you know more than most anyone else here!! Like it?? Don't like it?? Makes me absolutely no nevermind at all!!! My table is set, my pantry is full, my beds are made, and my bills are all paid!! Hint: I'm not the one who is on the outside, looking in!!

Eagle, thanks for sharing your experience with CFI. I agree in some part that certain items in your letter had little to do with safety or training in general.
However, the "safety director" obviously isn't too concerned about safety. It's a tough call to falsify logs or play it straight while training. You've received a fair amount of naysayers who say you should have falsified. But I'm willing to bet if you came here and told everyone you were fired because you falsified your logs, they would have flamed you like wild banshees! The bottom line is you did what YOU felt was the right thing to do and stood up for yourself. You received good training at Crowder if I remember right. You should have no problem getting on with another quality carrier. Good luck and keep us posted.
