I am new to trucking. I have found a job with a local company.
Coca Cola. I have 4 months experience now. Its not really driving. But they would hire me with less than 5 yrs between dui's. I would like to go long haul soon. Does any body know any companies who hire with less than 5 yrs between dui's. Could I team with someone o/o? Any info will help. Thank you.

I do not know of any company who's insurance provider would allow them to hire you. I know that none of the major co.'s will consider you with the last one being 4yrs. ago or less. An O/O??....again, I don't know what an insurance company would allow there. Are you a route driver for Coke??
I'm not trying to be a horse's ass here, but I will tell you that you are not likely to receive a warm or welcome reception here; very few drivers want to share the highways with a driver who has had even 1 DUI. much less 2 DUI's in such a short period of time, and such a short time ago. My advice?? Forget about OTR for the time being; focus instead about busting your ass for Coke, keep your head screwed on straight, and then you may have a shot at moving up the ladder where you are.

I don't know how things are in your neck of the woods, but where I live, rock bucket and end dump drivers are usually burned out OTR drivers who are willing to work for a lot less, as long as they can have more home time. Read that to mean: long on hours, and short on pay. In terms of dollars and cents, you would most likely be better off staying put at Coke!! BTW, end dumps can be very unforgiving; if they are not positioned correctly, they can very easily turn over when the load is being dropped .

I will say one thing; if you are driving for Coke as a route driver, you have an excellent opportunity to keep yourself in good physical condition, where as most OTR work tends to be very sedentary, and absolute hell on the body; something to consider!!

There may be some company who might take a chance on you after 5 years, but with two convictions on your record, I think that it is highly unlikely that any company would. Think about it; you are talking about driving a big truck that has the potential of becoming an 80,000lb. rolling missle!! If you were ever in a wreck, and someone was injured or killed, (even if you were not at fault) a company would have one hell of a time defending their decision to hire someone with two DUI's in such a short period of time. You really should consider prepairing yourself for another career. |
