leaving a company?

Let me add a little something important. If the company has to come get the truck, whether at your house or a nearby "convenient" truck stop, expect the follow 2 things to occur:
1. You will get charged roughly a $1 or more per mile for the "recovery" of that truck. 2. You will be hit charged with an abandonment when another employer calls to verify employment. Always, always, always...take that truck back to the terminal you picked it up at. If they say leave it at a truck stop or we'll come to your house and pick it up, get that IN WRITING, to cover your assets. I can't tell you how many times I've worked with drivers who had an amiable departure from their company and had the company cheerfully come out to their house or a truck stop to get it, then turned around and slam the driver with an abandonment. Cover your butt. Take it back, regardless of how far it is. 600 miles is 1 day's journey, as opposed to having to fight for a job for the next 3 to 5 years because of that job reference.

ive seen drivers with 5 or ten years at our company go into a tirade and quit on the spot.the next day the issue does not seem so important and they call wanting their job back.they have never been rehired and everyone is reminded that if there is no 2 weeks notice there is no rehire. the loads are planned 2 days in advance and something like that throws everything off for a week
