Default 65 MPH for 1 cent more (help GMAN)

OK I was offered today as I'm recently out of orientation to allow them to set the truck at 65mph (it's now at 68 or 70) and for that they would pay me one cent more per hour. They said they were going to test it out with the new guys and that it's voluntary.

He showed me that I was only averaging like 58 miles an hour now so saying it wouldn't really affect me.

As I'm new, I told him I need to think about it and look into it. He said it's mostly ego with trucks going by me but it would be better for me. I don't care about ego and if it's better for me than I would do it, but if it's better for me than I need someone who knows like GMAN and others here that know what they are talking about and have no financial gain in it like this company does to tell me so.

So GMAN and the others that truly know, what do I do?

Running east of the Mississippi river, most truck speed limits are not over 65 mph. Also with congestion th average speed a truck is going to travel in the course of a month is between 55 and 60 mph. West of the Mississippi you can add about 5 mph to this.

In addition to this, many companies, dispatch at 45-50, so regardless how fast your truck can go the miles gained in a week/month would be negligible.

So lets now do a little math. (I do not know what you are making so I just used these numbers for reference),

2500 x 30cpm = $750

2500 x 31 cpm = $775

Gee an extra $75 a week to have the truck go 2-3 mph slower.

I will take the extra money.

As you are new I would say take it till you have some time under your belt and have learned how to maximize the miles you can do in 11 hours then that extra 55 minutes will be handy, if you are running west (East coast nothing will help). I have a big horse with lots of gears and tall real ends and there isn't a State around that I couldn't get a ticket for more that 30mph over the limit but I have found that running the limit, or a little over, constantly, you will put on the miles. Running out of Fl. to the West coast I average 700 miles a day.

You figure you're going to loose 1K a year if you turn down the penny. I'd rather have the speed.

Ultimately, the question that you need to be asking is this:

How will having a truck that is governed 3 to 5 mph faster affect the number of miles that you are able to drive per week???

Is a dispatcher or FM going to give you a longer haul or an extra trip each week because you have a truck that runs 3 to 5 MPH faster??? (Not likely, IMO!!!)

So, if having the truck governed at 65MPH has no effect upon the number of dispatched miles that you drive every week, then what would be the point in having it turned up???

BTW, I am not an advocate of governed trucks!!!

Might want to check your arithmetic, Uturn!!!
At 2500 miles, the 1 cent difference would equal $25.00, not $75.00

Never ceases to amaze me that someone who doesn't have Any miles under their Belts are concerned with speed restriction on their truck.
