my company issues chains when we got loads where they might be required and even shows us how to chain up in different states. but they also have a policy that states if conditions are so bad we need to chain up we are allowed to wait until it is safe without them. they would rather wait longer and pay layover than lose a load, trlr, tractor, of god forgive a driver. we also have company paid skid pad training.

mikey you so funny you can hang one of those chains on the icc bar and say its a drag chain.i dont see many of those crst trucks around.maybe they dont cross the mountains to our side. i put on my rain gear so i can lay in the snow and grab some extra links. it take me too long too hang iron but they made me go over stevens pass every day for a year. snoqualmie would not be bad if there wasnt so much traffic.that stevens pass is nasty.

well homer i can do full set in less than hr but who cares. As far as crst there training program sucks so they don't trust their drivers. when it starts to snow they want their drivers to pull over . I have not work for them for about 6years so things may have changed .

I chained up for my first time last month in Colorado. My drive chains go over both wheels. Took me over an hour to do the first set. I asked another driver behind me how to do it, watched him drape them over the top then drive forward. I did the same and took me about 15 minutes for the other side.
I also broke 2 cross section links. When I got my chains I also bought a whole bunch of spare links. I'm heading to Colorado tomorrow and just laid out my chains and fixed the broken sections in about 2 minutes. You just put the new link on then pound it with a hammer to close it. Also, I watched a guy put on chains that a little child could do. They had these half moon shaped things on them so they hooked up real lose. After they were on he put a tool on the half moon, one crank and they were tight. He then put the bungee cords on and was gone. |
