I DON'T UNDERSTAND THEIR LOGIC ON THEIR GRADING OF MAJOR HIGHWAYS! I DROVE THRU A SNOW STORM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO FROM KENTUCKY, INDIANA AND ILLINOIS AND THEY HAD 3-4 FEET OF SNOW AND THEY HAD THE LANES CLEARED OFF AND OPENED! HEY COLORADO, GET WITH THE PROGRAM! THE PILOT OFF OF I-70 276A WAS HORRIBLE, ICE AND SNOW A FOOT DEEP, THESE GUYS NEED TO PAY TO GET IT PLOWED! BUT THANK GOD I MADE IT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS IN KANSAS CITY!
LOL I've grown up all my life in snow.. seen everything from a dusting to 48 inches.. plowed snow off and on in the mobile home park my dad runs. HIgh winds, blowing snow, all that crap.. best set up I have seen used to clear roads is <enter> trucks lined up one right behind the other just off set a bit, all the way across the road/freeway. so the first truck/front end loader cuts the path, next one widens it, next one goes wider yet, and so on. clearing the road in one solid sweep. It works well. More states need to plow this way. So often when I have been out west and down southwest they get snow and try to keep a road open by running a single plow down a road once in a while to keep a lane open. The drifting snow just closes the lane back off as fast as they open it. If they push it all the way off the road in a group it keeps the roads open far longer allowing them to cover more ground.. But hey... What do I know, I'm just a truck driver. Nendail

That is the echelon plowing ...yoopr is talking about. It is the safest and most efficient means of clearing a Highway road....but it is not safe to try and pass them. and this makes some driver's angry. Some will even go to the extent to prove how dangerous it is to pass.
It amazes me how some people drive on drifted icy roads. I hate when the road is icy...and I am down to 40 mph...yet it never fails...some 4-wheeler will pass me and merge back infront of me no more than a car length. Why do they do that? Should I give them a 40-ton enema? Is that what they are wishing? :?

As I was driving through Colorado last week I was deliberately trying to use my weight to cut into the mess and create more of a dry path for everyone else to follow. Sometimes getting out into the snow and plowing through it just to get rid of it. Believe me, I was loaded very heavy with both loads and had no problem at all staying on the road.
