Default Am I being held hostage?

The company I am working at has me on a 6 month contract. If I leave i owe $3000 for school.

I was on a good team getting 5400-7400 miles a week. Stayed out 2 weeks at a time.

My team mate up and quit. I have been running solo getting 1800 miles a week while they try and find me a team mate.

I make .32 a mile. I pay almost $200 a week for insurance. If i go somewhere else I have to wait 3 months for insurance. I don't have much in savings so trying to get my own insurance and go through another orientation .. well would be difficult at best.

I have about 4 months in now, almost 5. Do I stay put or what?

My family needs me to keep working but at the same time I feel like i am going to lose everything by staying.

I did think about doing a lease purchase to get out of this situation, but they say i will get about 2800 miles at $1.15 a mile thats with fuel surcharge, but with all deductions i would be paying out $2175 a week! Thats without getting health insurance for the family.

Someone PLEASE help me figure this out. Do I change jobs and pay $3000 and lose my health insurance? Do I stay and hope they find me a team partner that maybe i can stand this time?

Sigh I am so worried and confuse.

Thanks for any help

wanted to add that i am getting 1800 miles a week because of all the sitting. I sat 38 hours in california, now i am going to sit 30 hours in illinois waiting on my load to be ready, i get paid $50 after 24 hours.

I just wanted to be clear on that. I average around 650 miles a day if they give me miles.

Is it slow like this everywhere??

If it were me, it would be a no brainier....hold on one more month and then no worries of paying back $3,000.

And you never know, they may find you a team mate soon.

Stay where you are at. Things are slow all over, you are not the only one sitting. I have spent more time sitting then rolling this month too.

I am an o/o with my own authority, and it is really a bad time for freight right now. If you quit, you wind up in a worse spot, and it will be even more weeks before you even see a paycheck.

Right now, I am spinning my wheels out here too. I am stuck in KC MO right now, waiting for a load on Monday. I think I am going home, and will just eat the dead head.

Trust me, you are not alone.

$200/wk for insurance is outrageous. My o/o insurance on me and the truck is that!

However, I'd wait it out a little longer to see when they can get you a teammate? What company do you drive for?

You will do some sitting right now, no matter whom you work. It is always slow this time of year. It seems unusually slow this year. It is not uncommon for a solo to only get between 1,800-2,200 miles per week at this time of year. I know it is difficult, with only a month or so to go on your contract, it is in your best interest to stick it out. As soon as things pick up, you may want to put money aside to help next year when freight slows down. I usually take off between Christmas and New Year's. Hang in there, it will get better.

Think Gman is right, freight is slower than usual for this time of year. I just sat for a couple of days in Houston looking for a load towards Fl. then just said "hmmm get good fuel milage running empty" and put it in the wind for home Let the grass grow under the wheels till first part of January.
Hang with what you have, it won't be any better anyplace else and like someone else said start a savings account and get about a months wages in it just for rainy days like this.

Yes they are right stay put. You dont want to lose 3000 dollars and have to start all over again.
