FINALLY! I got my license straightened out and walked into school today out here in Phoenix. Took a little bit to get paperwork straightened out because Memphis hadn't sent my stuff out yet, but got it all taken care of and now I'm sitting in the wonderful roach motel... but its got free wifi so I can't complain that much.

Just had to post something because I'm so happy I'm FINALLY in school and without any more holdups!

How come they sent you to school in Phoenix when you live in Maryland?

I was told by a recruiter that I would have to drive all 48 states for a year before I could go regional. Is this what you were told?

I originally went to Memphis (Millington), TN but had an issue with my license (AZ) so instead of going back to Maryland and sitting on my ass for a month I decided to bus it out here and stay with my mom. And in 4 days I got my license fixed and on day 5 I'm in school.

No, but I never asked. Being that I lost my family already (before i even started school really...) I'm gonna run solo OTR... tho I did found it I can get a pet so I'm gonna get a dog (probably a rottie or a shepard as i love both breeds and have had them all my life) to ride with me. $500 pet deposit ($250 refundable once you stop runnin with a pet or quit) but it'll be worth it to me. Having "lost" my 7m/o son I need company, and I've never had a dog leave me.

We had a chat awhile back before you went to school. Your wife left you not your son. You will always be his father, so don't forget it!!!
Don't forget you have a right to be in his life, so don't forget about him. You will loose most respect from many people if you do this. Do what ever it takes to see him as much as possible. Remember what I tell you, your child is worth more than the JOB!! You can be OTR and still be a father!!
Being gone a lot does not make you a bad father either! I'm not putting you down, I just don't want to see you make the biggest mistake in your life!!!! I have raised 2 family's on the road. The 1st 2 kids I didn't see much because of divorce. I was young and could have seen them more, and let depression get the best of me! Don't make this mistake. The 2Nd 2 kids I watched them grow up and spent time raising them with my wife. I hope everything goes well for you and your son!!!

Don't think that because you went through a divorce that you have lost your children and they do not want you in your life. I was a single parent raising two children after a divorce. During this time, I went through more than one custody suit over a 15 years period. Winning and losing along the way. It was not a good experience for the children, but some parents will use the children as pawns. In the end, I heard my daughter tell a friend that I was the one who raised her.

I chose to stay where I was and never married or had another female live with me for 13 years after I realized that their mother would never allow another female to live in my house without creating additional psychological problems for my children.

I do understand that you must get experience in order to be marketable for local jobs in your area. Being the case, you do have to go on the road for a while. My unsolicited advice to you is "Go get your experience, keep track of your child and get back into a structured visiting routine as soon as possible. Should you ever find yourself in another relationship that includes step-children - Never give you ex-wife the opportunity to say that you love them more than your own child.
