I have done a search, and I still can't find a list of items that would be beneficial to take on the road once training is complete.
Has anyone ever posted one? Where can I find one? I have found the list of things to take to training.

good bedding and maybe a sleeping bag for cold weather emergencies. A small tool kit and yes, duct tape. Sounds sterotypical but the stuff really can save the day in a million ways. A good flash light. Plenty of clothes, you never know when you are going to get dirty and need a change when trucking. Good work gloves(keep a sperate set for fueling). Keep a good stock of food, its cheaper to eat out of the truck and you never know when you might be broken down and hungry. Baby wipes are a wonderful thing to keep around. Keep a few good ink pens stashed away. A good cooler si nice to have, I use an electric myself. A tv/dvd combo is nice if you like movies and tv but not neccessary. those are a few to start, i'll let others add as we go.

When you say "training", do you mean school, or OTR. There'll be a difference between both those and when you're on you own. On your own, storage will still be at a premium. Plan and pack accordingly.
For school or OTR, the school and the company you go with should tell you what to have/bring. During the OTR phase, your trainer/mentor and your observations will clarify items to have. Never short yourself on footwear and socks, particulalry this time of year. As far as clothing, know how to layer so you won't overheat and sweat. In any case, do an archives search using "stuff to take" or "things to take" here, at layover.com/lounge, pumpkindriver.com, and roundtable.truck.net, among others. The topic has been beaten into the ground. BOL

Take along a simple camera, aim & shoot. Winter is coming and you should get some interesting shots of your drivers mirror and other stuff.

OK, I found a pretty good list of things to take on the road. I went to newbiedriver.com, there was a rather long list of items posted in there.
Since storage is tight in a truck, I'll definitely have to thin that list down. Thanks for all the posts. |
