My wife and i are in our mid forties and have two kids in college. Since the kids now live away on campus we are looking to sale our house and become a trucker team. I have been looking at different ways to do this.
We have looked at expedite solutions. http://www.expeditesolutions.com/faqs.html The pro and cons of Expedite. Pros They are 70 miles from where i live. We can become a team immediately. Cons The trucks are Class b therefor training is class B . This appears to limit opportunities greatly for any future changes. A class b license is worthless. Their runs are only in the Midwest. My wife and i have had the same jobs and living in the same house for 17 years. We had discussed becoming truckers after our last child graduated high school to see the country. We have two kids in college so we still need money. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how me and my wife can stay together and become a team. We understand that for training we may need to separate and team with a trainer. What we don't want to do is separate for a long period of time. I am a weightlifter married to a women who is not very strong. She can drive but would struggle to load a truck. Would that stop her from being able to go through a school. As a team i would do all heavy lifting. My wife and i have spotless driving records and a good long work history. I know we would be a good hire. Anybody have a suggestion how to match a company and training with us. I live in Indiana

I seem to recall someone mentioning that Covenant will train a husband and wife and put them together after training. You might give them a call. Few carriers do much unloading of freight. Most hire a lumper, if needed.

You can also contact [email protected] "Christine" also you can reach her at 800-641-4748, ext 5718 and discuss with her the training opportunities with CFI....as long as you live in the hiring area. (You didn't show that in your "location")... But if you live anywhere in the "midwest" you are in the hiring area.
CFI has a number of husband and wife teams, and I think they prefer h/w teams because they work well. Very little touching of freight, predominantly drop and hook. You can do a search here on this site using Skywalker and CFI as the searchwords and you will get alot of information about them. Also, you can drop over to http://www.cfidrivers.com and log on.

The route that I would suggest is to find a school/community college and get your Class A CDl's on your own finances if you can.
Then hire on with a company. Covenant will train (OTJ) husband/wife teams in the same truck though I would I would reccomend not going this route. If you have different trainers then you would have twice the experience and knowledge. Most of the training companies (those that hire students) run teams and will train both of you in separate trucks and then put you together as a team after you are upgraded. Even if you would rather drive a straight truck I would still go and get your class A's and then look to hire on with an expediting company. Many of them like Fedex CC, Conway, Panther 2 have fleet owners looking for drivers.
