Default Employment verification/Getting a job with a carrier

Hello, just wondering on employment verification: I had a job working for my dad for a few years, and was paid under the table. Will a carrier be satisfied with calling up my employer, my father, and get a verified work history from him? Or are they gonna wanna see w2's and tax returns?
Ty

Working under the table for a living is always a bad idea and when you do it for a family memeber it makes matters even worse.

What I would do is to list this period of time as self employed on your job application and then get 2 or 3 notorized letters from friends saying the can verify that you were self employed during that time.

Of course this is all assuming that this happened in the last 3 years. If it was longer than 3 years ago (from the time the your employment ended with your Dad) then do not worry about the letters as it is doubtful that a company will attempt to verify it.

If I say I was self employed, won't they want to see my tax returns?

Nope. Who is to say you ever made enough money to have to file tax returns.

If you would feel more comfortable with it then just say you were unemployed.

Default Employment Verification

"working for my Dad" I don't know of any company accepting verification of anything from immediate family members. The recommendation to use notarized letters may be your best way. BOL

definitely notarized letters.

Uturn is on the money - how long ago did you work for your dad? if it wasn't in the past 3 years it won't be a big deal. also if you worked anywhere else on the side (temp agencies for a few months here and there, mcdonalds, whatver) during the time you worked for your pop make sure and put that down on your application as well.

the best thing to do is ask the carriers you're interested in driving with. everyone has different rules they have to go by for verifications.

Thanks I appreciate the information guys, I'm thinking about applying to Roehl, and just don't want to blow it. Maybe I will work my current job for 1 year and try to build up my resume.

Here is my resume in a nutshell:

Aug 2006-Present Security Guard at Hospital
Aug 2006-Present Domino's Pizza
2005-August 2006 Student/Unemployed
2003-2005 Manager at small car dealership (Father's)
2002-2003 Real estate agent
2001-2002 Assistant Manager at pool cleaning company (Also my Fathers)

I have other crappy jobs that I would omit on my application just because they were 3-4 month jobs. Maybe I should leave out Domino's?

Just wondering if this would float with Roehl or Scheider or any good carrier for that matter. I know very little about the trucking business atm, I have been reading a lot of posts here for the last 2 weeks and am thinking this is somthing I would like to do, but I don't know if I have the qualifications.
