Why would you assume that? The whole point to running a team truck is to keep that truck moving. One drives, the other sleeps, then you switch, stopping only for fuel, loading/unloading, and an occasional restaurant dinner. You are supposed to take your days off during your home time.
I'll take issue with that Highwayman. With the current hours of service limits most teams are going to sit one day a week doing their 34 hour restart. They could of course work fewer hours per day and 7 days a week continuous, but that is another story.
If a team is doing things right, they can run legally, relatively hard, and never run out of hours and make money.

I keep seeing ads of $50,000 gross a year per person. Is this a realistic expectation with us working as a team or would we have to break laws and work very long hours? Or is $50,000 realistic after the first year?
For a team that runs, $50K is not unreasonable. BUT, a team that runs has NO life outside the truck - you dirve and sleep and that is it. You can make that money legally, but you will still put in long hours.
And how is a solo driver different? You are paid to move freight, not sit around.
Solo isn't much different, except there is usually alot more sitting around time (At docks, etc, NOT at home) that is often unpaid or underpaid.

There's much more to life than wasting it sitting in a truck all the time.

Xpress trucks are in the same condition as any other company. The trucks are 2003 or later, when something breaks you goto the shop. Ive never had to get a trailer fixed.

Ive driven for them for 1 year. They started me out in a 04' peterbilt(beautiful). It has 355k miles on it, and next week they are giving me a 07' petebilt.

I have heard this a lot about a lot of companies but, honestly, I have never known it to be true. Most companies (I can't speak for Swift here- and I suspect it might apply there) realise the value of a reliable driver/team. I have never known this to be true except in cases where the driver/team was unreliable and got passed over in favor of better teams.

And the logic isn't right- after the 1st year you will get no runs and yet their 2 senior drivers and teams get the best runs... how can that be right. Apparently the "two" senior drivers and teams are getting runs- I imagine that they are reliable. I also imagine there are other reliable teams/drivers that are getting good runs too- it's just you hear the unreliable drivers/teams whining a lot louder.

It's always the company's fault.

picking the right co. will be key here. you are a professional and will ask lots of tough questions and present 'what if' scenarios. document everything by communicating with email. choose a co. with lots of drop and hook freight to eliminate THE biggest time looser there is in this business- Waiting for loads should be minimal!! Just enough time for you to get showers and eat. Choose a co. that wont make you sign a contract, with a good rep and good pay. 40cpm split?? you should be able to do a bit better, however I dont have much to compare to off hand. You should be able to run 1kmiles in a 24hr period or at least 8oo miles if you use the 8 hrs each method as per the new (bs) regulations.
5k miles a wk. is low, you can do that in 5 days once you are used to sleeping with a moving truck and when each driver can run the truck as if they were alone. Staying out weeks at a time makes you a big asset to the co. as you can go anywhere, anytime and can choose to take a few days off while close to home provided that you let them know before they schedule you for another load.
Be sure to get looooong runs to do over the weekend, they will be the easiest running, best paying through less delays and traffic, no scales open, long run means less stopping and bypassing cities.
You can do well!!
Check into Conway truckload, they run only teams, and have good equipment (volvo 770). I used to drive for Conway Now that does expedited runs and they were very professional to say the least. Trckload was run from the same office. Avoid expeditors though, you will sit too much waiting on loads.
GOOD LUCK

Eastboundanddown?? I seem to recall a guy who called himself "WestboundandDown"!!

Sure hope we are not dealing with Multiple Personality Disorders here!!

On the other hand, if you do have Multiple Personality Disorder, then you would be covered under "The Americans With No Abilities Act", so you could run multiple log books, and no one could mess with you!!

I will say this much; if you live in Florida, but insist upon being "EastboundandDown", then you are going to have a very difficult time getting any miles!!

The thing I question in this is the 55 mph to calculate the number of hours it takes for a driver(in this case team drivers) to get their miles. Nobody averages 55 mph when dealing with stops, and all the other misc stuff that has to be done and impedes getting ones miles. I I would guess that the driver will be looking at a 10-12 hr day, and then switch(just my guess). YMMV

The other thing that should be noted is the team pay at USX is per diem pay. This can be a negative depending on your tax bracket, how close you are to retirement, and social security situation. BOL
