Drug testing is not mandatory in Canada.

You need to be tested if you haul into the US.

Of if the company you work for hauls into the US and they make all of their employee belong to the drug testing group, whether or not the driver hauls into the US.

An employer in Canada can make drug testing a part of the employment requirements if they want. Some do, some don't.

Makes sense don't you have funny aspirin, something with Codeine?

Regarding the post - I run reefer 95% of the time and nobody seems to want to break down their loads on this forum, so I guess I have the hardest job. Swallow the words the guys, always complaining about reefer need lumpers, no, just need someone to unload, some of us don't mind....good exercise.

Hi i am just writing to comment on flatbed drivers are the hardest working in the driving industry!

I Drive a convertible which is a flatbed + a tipper for grain now if you think operating a flatbed is hard try doing wot i have to do on a almost daily basis..
I set up my convertible tarps which way 200 kgs dry 300+ wet. Fill with Material ie Grain and cart 4-5 hours. Then i dismantle the cgaes roll up the tarps and load up with general freight mainly concrete pipes , and such for the return trip.. Then i start all over again !!!

Now thats a bitch but im young and it was a leg up into the industry !!

And i Love it!!!!!

I think that mandatory drug testing is a waste of money, anyway. It is a huge business.

Default NewCanadianDriver...welcome to truckin' !!

All truckin' is hard work...and some of the hardest work isn't the physical. I drive mostly reefer and trust me...you can have some nut bustin' days, and some extremely tight spots to manuver where you proform miricles wiggling and inching against the odds. I'm a new driver too...been rollin' for just over 2 years now. I've had a few flatty loads...good money there, but mostly reefer, with some dry loads on return trips. You really develope patience with reefer...you average 4 hours to either load or off load. We run very tight schedules...so tight I call my daily log..."the funny pages..!!" We too have to babysit our load...can't afford to ruin any product...perishables can be very nerve racking loads. I think truckers are a rare breed...and we all work our ass off a some point or another. Many of us are not in the best of shape...so when it does come time to roll up those sleeves...the work is even more difficult...when you are not use to daily routine.
I worked construction for 30-some years...so truckin' is a new thing for me, and so far I like driving...at least for the first few days out....after that I begin to get quiet...then after a week out..I begin to get downright ornery...two weeks out....don't give me eye contact. I do behave...but good thing I'm not a team driver !!!! At the truck stops...I can tell who has been out for awhile...and I bring this up...because to me...this is one of the hard parts of driving...that's tougher than the physical labor. We all deal with this stress differently, and some better than others. I'm still learning to cope with it, and "settle in" to this new life for me.
I thought construction was HARD work, and Truck Driving was going to be easy....man was I wrong. Driving got into my blood right away though...and I hope to drive for another 12 years, or million miles, which ever comes first.
Happy Haulin' Bro !!
