You can blame old Charlie Parker with his song back in 1947..."Cool Blues."
The jazz movement then adopted "cool" and has been in existence ever since.
The phrase started up in the 1980's cool beans. Kids were desperate to come up with hip new phrases. Like wicked cool, like almost tubular.

But...the original Daddy O...was the coolest, if you can dig it. Farout....man...cool beans...what it is....word.
