Default I-75 closed Tennessee

From the Kentucky/Tennessee line to about Caryville, TN. TDOT is saying it could be that way for a month due to a landslide. Detour for Southbound is mainly along the 25W at Jellico. Or the 297 to 63 which should bring you back to 75 a half mile beyond the slide.

Northbound is being routed off at Caryville onto 25W.

Wide loads are being advised to get to 25E to run from Corbin, KY to Morristown, TN for either direction.

Thanks for the info. That should be interesting having to go around that slide.

Terrible backups I'm hearing! Some of the detour(s) are not meant for heavy traffic or trucks. Best bet, try to route well out of the way of it if possible. Looks like the slide happened just a few hundred feet from another one a year or two ago that took out the Southbound lanes for a while. 141.5 is the location of this one.

I was coming up I-75 northbound from Georgia and there was a note on one of the overhanging signs that stated that I-75 was closed at the MM141 and to seek other routes. That will be a pain until the road is opened.

Read a blurb today, still closed in both directions. TDOT is HOPING to have the Southbound lanes fully opened by March 17, and 1 lane of Northbound by March 24th. All lanes open by April 15th. Said they are still having issues with the slide STILL in progress. So this schedule could change since they have to wait for it to finish sliding before they can really ramp up work.

I heard a news report earlier today that said the highway may be closed for 2 months. That will really cause some issues.

That would be about right if you check the date of the slide, just under 2 months if they can get it open by April 24th.....but, they can't do a whole heck of a lot until the slide has finished shifting around. Don't want to get going and have the rest of the mountain come crashing down on workers! Those detour routes are going to get torn up badly with all the heavy trucks going across them when they weren't designed for that. Saw an interview with some local's there, they were rather concerned for the safety of the traffic. No shoulders, narrow roads handling 53 footers!

If I need to travel in that direction, I think that I will just find a totally different route and absorb the extra miles rather than dealing with all the traffic on the detour.

Yeah, 77 and 65 are the options to get around if you don't want back roads through the mountains......but depending on your location you may have to drive out of your way to get to either one. So check your route early and the out of route won't be as bad!
