New Company Concerns
Hi all,
We have a common trucking business name and we are changing to sound more professional. However, we will keep the same DOT and MC number do you know if there are any negative consequences for this?
I have heard that some people may not recognize the name and that it might be bad fore business so I m not sure whether to be concerned or not?
Thank you

You really ought to seek the counsel of an attorney (licensed to practice in your state) regarding those specifics. It shouldn't require more than a few hours of his/her time, and you need to make sure that you go about making those changes properly. You would also do well to speak with your insurance company's representative about making those changes, as well.

I'd advise you to put a shout out to "G-Man" regarding those matters. He has decades of experience in the trucking industry. If he can be of help, he'll be glad to do it; if he can't, he won't BS you.
Thank you

My realms of experience and expertise don't include ownership or management in the trucking/transportation industries......
........... Unless you need advice regarding "Crossdocking"!! J/K!!
Seriously though, in my opinion, a little bit of knowledge in the realms of trucking/transportation is dangerous. Wish I could be of more help to you, but here's wishing you the best!!

I am not sure what you mean by a "common" trucking name or changing to a more "professional" name. But, unless you have been in business for a long time, it probably won't make much difference. Any time you make a major name change it will take a little time for customers and those with whom you do business to get accustomed to the name change.

Hi Gman,
Thank you for your reply as well.
What I meant by "common" is that we are a normal trucking company. We do not have a professional trucking company name like Knight, Swift, Penske or Ryder. We have been in business for several years. I was thinking the same thing you said. I anticipate the new name to be an offset to the clientele but I am also hoping for a smooth and efficient transition with the new brand.
Since it is new for us I appreciate your candid feedback. Thanks again.

You are welcome, Adominguez. Sometimes it can be helpful to make a name change gradually. For instance, you could use the new and old name together, if appropriate, and later eliminate the old name from everything once people have become accustom to seeing the new name along with the old one.

Lisa Truck had that problem with her truck rental company.
Annie Howe and Chuck Wagon were able to help her… oh and Althea Thoon.

Alex Blaine, because Sasha Deal, Yvonne Tibet, and Sheila Tackya are really Craven Moorehead, Bess Eaton and Stella Virgin.
I don't know…. Nunzio Dambisnesse.
